Guides for New Players

Hi all, I've been making guides for new players that may also be useful for players with more experience as well.
Currently These are the guides I have up:

Friend or Foe?? Which AoEs are friendly from your party members and are therefor, safe and beneficial to be in.

A guide on Duty Finder and Party Finder. It also includes a section on how to use PF for High-End duties.

So you think you can tank. Tips and tricks on tanking to help you become a better tank. Did you know that Arm's Length doesn't work on magical enemies?

What is The Hunt and why you should care. what The Hunt is, how to unlock, what a Hunt Train is and how you can join. And why The Hunt is worth your time.


I've put them all in a playlist for convenient watching.

I plan to make more guides and videos to help new players ease into the world of Eorzea so any feedback and support would be very much appreciated.

Nice! Although I must confess I had a super derp moment lol, for a second I forgot I wasn't the audience and thought that was kind of funny. "of course you know what to stand it's, it's x y z except for h j and k and don't for get q r.. oh. hue.. right". . Not everyone is used to MMOs heck not everyone has even played a game before! Seems simple to some people but I bet this information will be very valuable to the audience it was made for.

I liked you took time to mention the dragoon tether, that one gets a lot of people I feel. Unusual to have a tether that is red no less. I didn't see cover but I don't think that one is as scary and it is isn't as important, since it's from a tank and looks 'good' (holy). I've never seen someone run from cover, and I love using it just because it's a cool spell.

It's stuff like salted earth, dragoon tether, or the ninja sandpit that really mess people up I think- since they look like they could be coming from monsters. Those ones you covered, so perfect .

Your intros are short which is really important for guides, I liked to do goofy little skits and stuff sometimes (different game) and while some people really enjoyed them other people would go down and cry, in a very loud way... lol. In my defense they're not those long loud logo bouncing things, nor did I ultimately care since I was just doing it as I thought it was fun at the time- not a job, like it or leave it XD. BUT, if you're going for 100% guide value getting to the point is really important. So good work on the short intros. You got to the point very quickly!

The chapter mark up was after me so I can't say if it helps the audience as a whole but I can say personally I find it helpful, so like if you had different general areas marked up that'd be cool. I saw you used it for introduction, and particularly very well on another video, but might have had like 'tank' section or what have you in the AoE UI guide. Just a personal comment that when I see them I just find it very satisfying the youtuber took the time to mark it.

Seems like you've been doing great as a start (and already have nice comments~). I think being super picky wouldn't really be productive, I think for your first few videos you're already doing way better than I was at that time so I've no room to judge. I don't want to not say anything as a copout effort (you asked for feedback, I should try!), I just think you're doing well so far, so I'd maybe comment on looking into sibilance, de-esser, sometimes the S sound can come off strong (and issue pretty much everyone has to figure out, including myself back then). Maybe a note on text duration, you had a text pop up in one of the videos about 30 day or something but it was too fast in and out so I couldn't read it all in one go, the point of the video wasn't affected by this so it was ultimately fine but just a note on that.

Maybe inspire from it to make certain videos, I dunno, but I just think it's nice that SE took the time to put it together.

Thank you Shougun so much for the detailed feedback! I really wasn't expecting that and it's very much appreciated.

I'm a DRG main so I may actually be a little biased lol. I've seen ppl run away from me or just generally be too far for me to tether.
I'm also not good at rambling so I guess that's a plus for me!

Thanks for the advice about adding chapters. That will definitely be helpful.

The sibilance is sth I do need to look into because I have noticed that they don't really come out the way I intended.

I have a couple of videos in the works right now and a few more ideas banging around my head. Here's to hoping ppl will get some use out of them!

I am ashamed to admit I am not a new player and still catch myself routinely running from Dragon Sight. That need to snap a red tether is deeply ingrained Especially a problem in fights that do, in fact, have red tethers you need to break.

I'm a little surprised they didn't make it a glowing blue like the Midgardsormr themed abilities. That color is less immediately associated with danger.
