    FF14 has an amazing community!

I've been playing for about a month now and I have to say that I've really enjoyed being around the community! Comparing all of the community aspects to World of Warcraft and I can easily say that the experience is much nicer! I have been through several dungeons/raids and have not seen one rude player and the only time I see the vote kick option being used is to kick AFK players. Even the forums are pretty amazing and helpful when needed and I really do like it! Does anyone else have similar thoughts on the community, or would it just be me being new

I've been around a lot of mmorpg communities and this one is definitely up there in terms of being overall pleasant. Welcome to FFXIV btw!

I wouldn't call it amazing or the best but it can be among the better ones unless you talk bad about the game.
Glad that you haven't experienced the bad apples, yet.

Spend a couple of weeks in WoW watching chat in a major city and/or running random dungeons. You'll understand the enthusiasm.

I joined in BC. I played WoW every single day I could, for years until late WoD. Even then, I still get on sometimes to play, I've still pre-ordered every single expac. I can say that I've been around on there for a pretty long time.

So, you can't say I hadn't seen trade chat, and I hadn't dealt with people in dungeons. So... Where's this large amount of toxicity I'm apparently missing that makes wow so horrid and ffxiv so great?

The actual, literal difference, is WoW doesn't try to loom this idea above your head that giving advice is a cancerous sin that'll get you yeet deleted from the game. I get it's just my opinion, but a community afraid to speak is not a good community, it's a quiet one.

But what do I know, I'm just the guy playing the literal worst healer in the game on a race that gives no benefits to said class with practically no curve achieves, yet having no problems getting into parties for whatever I've tried to join, and have been complimented on my ability to play my class despite those shortcomings of it.

Oh, also, if you wanna talk trade, have you seen some server's NN? Zalera's even has a rep for spouting racist, homophobic, and sexist crap with no GM's intervening. It's weird, community's scared to speak up because GM's, but GM's also show time and time again not to do much of anything unless they personally take offense.

Ah yes, here comes the GCBTW crowd. Always ready to help people delve down into the depths of their own cynicism.

I love the fact that this game you can get in trouble for trying to help people who don't want your help. That is the best thing about this game, and it is the reason why the game shines.

It is a know your place sorta thing. If said person was part of your FC and LS group that requires a standard than sure. That person needs advice to keep with the standard of people he playing with. By all means. That person joined knowing full well the rules of said group. But in a pug settings? It is a know your place and don't say a thing or get in trouble. And I love it.

having "grown up" using Zalera's NN I cannot say my experience was consistent with the "rep" that you have given it

also I have given lots of advice and never been ..."yeeted"

as in most things I suspect its more of a how you talk or give advice or receive it that determines if you are..."yeeted"

I only speak on the Zalera one from 2 sets of experience: The few times I world visited, and the Zalera's that do world visit over here and mention they're shocked they haven't been called the N word yet.

But if anything, I guess it's an example to prove a point, because you say it's not like that for most of the time, or it could just be a really bad apple in the bunch, and that's exactly something true on both game's communities.

Also, I haven't been yeeted either for any actual advice I've been given, just I've seen it used as a threat enough times that I know some don't because they're scared it'll happen. Then again I did get put into the gaol because I player spammed slur's at me in whisper and I reported it (Yes I'm serious. Great GM team guys). So what do I know? lol

Until you're stuck unable to clear something because of the performance everyone else is bringing, who refuse to listen to a word you're saying, while at the same time choosing that kicking is bad on anybody, even yourself to get you into sweet release, so you sit there in a stupidly easy dungeon for 90 minutes because they refuse to even do the most basics of basics of basics at level 80.

And if anything, this ALSO proves a point for me, so thanks. Why should people be scared to help their fellow player when they clearly struggle with something, specially when we have an entire system created just for that? If we clearly hit a brick wall, something has to change up, no? And that means sometimes someone's just gonna have to tell you that something was done wrong and how to fix it.

Oh, and so it doesn't get "filled in" as the person from wow too. No, cussing you out and insulting you isn't advice. I think we can agree telling a player to get cancer isn't advice. But I do think reminding somebody about the stack marker so they don't run off with it as the healer is fine. Mentioning your combo line, is fine. Mentioning how astral fire boosts fire damage by up to 80%, which the game 100% poorly helps in telling how much it boosts, is fine.

If the devs did respect people’s time, they would look at fixing the system as a whole. Instanced housing would fix the entire situation but yoshi said he doesn’t like instanced so we didn’t get it…yeah real respect for the playerbase’s time there.
Also, in square defense, at least we're getting lottery system eventually so you don't sit there forever.

While not instanced housing, which would be the preference, at least this'll help prevent unhealthy camping, and also heavily reduce botting in that section as there's no camping for the bot to do. Only thing that'll do now is just probably hit more open houses, as it scans areas.

It all has to do with great game, operational, and philosophy design.
As I always say, a game that makes you want to help other people that is a true mmorpg. We have enough games that pit players against players all the time in every aspect and system of the game, XIV got it right.
