Questions about job stories

Makes sense, considering the 60-70 paladin quests are basically a gladiator story.

Level 80 too. You talk to Jenlyns long enough for him to say something is bothering Mylla and then it's off to the Gladiator's Guild for the rest of the Job Quest. The HW Job Quests for Paladin were so bad it effectively killed the entire Job's storyline and from here on out it's pure Gladiator. The game is so well known for it's story and characters, but then you look at Paladin and it's like, what the hell happened here? Just depressing to even think about it.

What's even worse is that the HW Paladin quests is you have a job that is called Knight in Japanese having no interaction with any of the Ishgardian knights, in an expansion centered on a city full of knights.

There are few good DPS job stories. I think only Dragoon, Red Mage, Samurai (to an extent), and Machinist really qualify for DPS. For healers, Scholar's storyline is really good. For Tanks, Gunbreaker and Dark Knight are good. Though in general, Dark Knight has the best job story in the game, since it actually takes what has happened in the Main Story Quests and uses it for the storyline.

Don't forget the crafter and gatherer quests. Alchemist is really good, especially 60-70 which gets into the backstory of a major character.

Botanist acknowledges that you have done an optional dungeon, which is kinda neat.

If I had to rate the stories overall...

Tanks: DRK > GNB > WAR > PLD

Heals: SCH > AST > WHM

Melee DPS: DRG > SAM > NIN > MNK

Ranged DPS: MCH > BRD > DNC

Magic DPS: SMN > BLM > RDM

DRK is a very "personal" story...and I can't say much more about that without it becoming spoilery.

DRG can be considered a prelude to HW in a way and changes the dialogue throughout a fair bit if you opt to finish the level 50 quests prior to starting it.

SCH offers some additional insight into the Nymians, the lesser known third party in the War of the Magi.

MCH ties rather strongly into the social climate of Ishgard and the push towards giving the commonfolk more power and presence in a society where some would rather they stay down in the dirt.

SMN offers a fair bit of additional lore behind the Allagans, has some appearances from MSQ characters, and also has the distinction of being the only job story that has any direct Ascian involvement.

I have reasons why I liked all of the stories in general, but I find those ones had the most reasons I liked them overall.

Dragoon has a really good story for DPS.

Warrior has a good story for tanks.

Scholar has a good story for healers, those are my recommendations.

My favorite stories in ARR are GSM and ALC. For combat Rogue is the best and Maruarder the worst IMHO.

If you do the beast tribes, the Ixal story rocks.

BSM, ARM, BTN, GSM, All Facet Quests in Crystarium

Were OK/At least funny:
