Sheesh, all you guys out there with Dancer, Red Mage, and the like ...

The easiest DPS role out there, with the fewest buttons to press, has to be either Scholar or White Mage.

Pretty much: 1,2,<some rigaramarole about songs>,3,3,3,3,[proc! Hit whatever's lit],3,3,3, eventually 1,2 or the 'renew dots' once you get it,3,3,3, etc.

Plus, you get to run around like a chicken crossing a roundabout. Or not.

DPS with the simplest rotation would be Red mage or Dancer.

Red mage requires a bit more situational awareness for ressing people. The rotation is pretty much charge black and white mana by alternating your veraero and verfire combo with verstone and verthunder. Then use a melee combo to deal high damage.

Dancer is just proc based. A portion of your DPS is going to the party. The situational awareness for this job is to coordinate buffs with the party (but it's more like just never miss your Standard Step and Tech Step when it comes up and you'll never drift from your burst windows).

Hands down MCH, I recommend MCH, it’s a good stepping stone and when your ready you can try out the better more elaborate jobs

Cynical remarks aside MCH only drawback in terms of being full accessible job is ping. If that’s not a issue this is the unofficial blue tag job as it has the least amount of skills, infinite mobility and it’s mechanics (singular mechanic) is pretty much automatic and can be mastered in 3-6 minutes or less. Hands down easiest job in the game surpassing RDM and DNC.

Disregarding Role skills, MCH actually has the least with 19 while DNC has 21 and RDM having 26 give or take if Scorch/VerFlare/Holy counts as skills.

Hard disagree, DNC and MCH are far simpler. This isn’t the argument of how hard is BRD but that it’s no where as simple as it’s sister jobs.

lol why are we talking about healers in a dps thread?

But back to the topic of actual dps; Don't let the ability to revive people on RDM be a deterrent. You can setup a macro to target dead people without ever leaving your primary attack target.

    /micon Verraise
    /ac Verraise <4>
    /ac Verraise <5>
    /ac Verraise <2>
    /ac Verraise <3>
    /ac Verraise <6>
    /ac Verraise <7>

It will attempt to raise healers first, tanks second, and then dps, and skip anyone who is currently alive assuming you have the default party order in the party list. This macro made reviving much easier for me. Just wait for a dualcast proc to make your next spell instant and then press macro to be the star of the party.

    Simplest Rotation is BLM.

    You can setup a macro
But for a gcd you shouldn't. Learn to target, and roll the gcd well. If you want to get decent at dps, don't adopt bad gameplay habits like macroing gcds. Even Verraise.

They also have actual responsibilities aside from DPS, with levelling content and older content often demanding more attention from you than current content, mostly due to item level advantage and the plethora of free oGCD heals you have at endgame. I wouldn’t recommend people heal until they’re comfortable abcing first, and for that Black Mage is a better option than other classes, even someone dedicated to healing in other games I’d recommend Arcanist first just to get used to the GCD timer. Conjurer is a good tutorial healer, but it’s not a free DPS class. I find new players still need the basics first.

Black Mage or Dragoon would be my DPS recommendation from level 1. And anyone looking to learn will not want to boost.
