    Tons of bots piling up

    Hi,

I'm playing on Moogle server and there are tons of bots piling up in Ul'dah near the gateway to Western Thanalan:

I've already reported it through the ingame report but nothing changes.

Can someone take care of it please, it's frustrating to then see the same bots spamming chat for selling gils and stuff...

    Thanks!

As Sotaris said, they ban in waves in an effort to track down those guilty of selling and buying. Nix the seller and you just get more waves of bots, cut out the purchasers as well and you begin to excise the market for said behavior as people realize their account/s are at risk.

Their whole "ban in waves" philosophy really only works if they're actually getting rid of the bots before they're able to earn their gil and make transactions, but the fact that they've been using this exact same tactic of speedrunning bots through the ARR MSQ with hacks then farming one of the level 50 dungeons for gil drops (Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep seem to be the typical choices) since the ARR days should've indicated to them a long time ago that it's not working. It only takes a day for these guys to finish the ARR MSQ and hit level 50, which leaves them with the rest of the week to farm additional gil from dungeons and attempt to sucker people into buying from them before they get banned, then the cycle continues.

The number of these bots has gone down since then regardless, but I assume it's more because they've opted to move into "sustainable" forms of RMT botting that pose a very low risk of them getting banned but still rake in gil rapidly; namely monopolizing the economy with DoH/L farming or spamming treasure maps.

You should remove your picture. It'll get you banned faster than any botting or RMT for naming and shaming. Not saying i approve of botting or RMT.

I'm curious as to why they can't just change the naming system to prevent gibberish names? Idk how much that could prevent BOTS but it might slow them down a bit.

(Then again such a system is a double edged sword, and would be too hard to implement).

Something that would actually help is adding a no man's land to specific out of bounds portions of zones/instances so that if the bots try their usual teleport hacking shenanigans they'll just keep getting shoved back to the nearest aetheryte.

The funny thing is that seemingly all of the post-ARR zones already have this in place, so it would just be a matter of building on it and fine-tuning it to cover all of the spots the bots typically pass through; particularly dungeons because they can't actually clear those without hacking themselves out of bounds so that the bosses can't hit them.

LOL! That's hilarious. I don't think people care about stopping these things. We need an automatic cheat engine or something for real.

Indeed . I was always curious as to why you never see the bot armies in HW and on wards . I wonder why they dont or cant add out of bounds auto character removal zones in ARR maps.

Despite my lack of interest in WoW now for many years , I do appreciate their initial attempts with teleport hacking with their, now dated, Warden system which detected sudden jumps in map co-ordinates on all 3 axis , to see that an impossible traversal just took place . A bit like how speed camera systems on motorways can determine average speed between camera nodes .

Heck even The Division 1 & 2 an mmo-lite duo of games , has a decent auto character replacement system for out of bounds areas , of which there are many.
