More rewards to exchange or titles would be great but not neccessary, to be honest.
Almost 5k commendations here and I’m fine even if they’re, well basically, useless.

Meanwhile, you can get a free crown with any decent Ishgard restoration guide and a handful of days... Who needs commendations or any battle role when you can just spam a couple of macros?
I wouldn't mind more achievements/rewards for 5k and 10k commendations though.
I have 6656 commendations in only 4 years, fite me.
Oh my god I have no life.
Man maybe we shouldn't have mentors at all.
For every helpful mentor I've seen answer questions in the novice network there is another who is just a tryhard RPer who thinks the crown is the same as being a GM; or a know it all who will give researchably incorrect info on a battle rotation or overwhelm a sprout with savage openers for max dps that was not pertinent to basics of aurum vale. Opportunists that recruit as many noobs as they can to their FC to farm credits; or even just a troll shitposting and memeing about WoW or some other game and how its the death of final fantasy.
Mentor requirements are more about playtime than any semblance of skill or the ability to help and it shows.
While this could be bait you are letting what other people think matter way too much to you. I would put the crown back on and carry on helping people. Both because it looks cool and because you mean well to the community, and so long as you actually help out you are doing what the mentor system was designed for and are getting rewarded with a crown for it. The crown is pretty snazzy and I don't think they should remove it. It's true that there's bad mentors out there and the NN can descend into drama but by and large people ask questions in that chat and they get answers. This may vary from server to server but if I were to average it out the helpful advice outnumbers the bad by a lot.
We know that 1500 comms are required to become a mentor, along with some other simple job and duty requirements. We also know that the Mentor system has become somewhat of a meme as of late.
...
In fact, I'm not actually here to debate it. By the way, I only ever wore the crown and sword because it looked cool.
Is it just me or is their something here that could make the game quite a bit more interesting? If 1500 comms net you a golden crown by your name.. shouldn't I have a multicolor flashing strobe light super crown by mine?
I think by now you should understand that people like to criticize, label, call out, and look down on others and it doesn't matter if they were helped by a mentor 500 times, if they had a few bad experiences along the way with a mentor they will latch on to those negative experiences and amplify them on reddit, and forums and the such until they tarnish the reputation of a system or title that conveys prestige. The same thing happens to people who beat ultimates, they often get accused of buying the weapons and titles if they dare commit a mistake in casual content. And more thin skinned people take their titles off even if they spent months collaborating with a static and working hard on getting them and their weapons. It's true others simply prefer anonymity after a while. All because other people like to criticize and they care too much about what others think.
And if you think those further rewards are going to get spared from the same criticism and tarnished reputation you are mistaken, they will be memed even harder and people will try to attach an even bigger stigma to them. So, I'm all for more rewards because they are cool, but the real issue here is that you care too much about what others think. Negative people will bring negativity to all other aspects of their life and will try to pass it on to others. If they can ruin other people's day they will, it is almost fulfillment to them. Don't let them! Carry on the good work so long as its helpful, and let the people you are actually helping tell you whether you are actually being helpful or not, not some arbitrary reddit/forum poster with a grudge.
Comms are quite possibly one of the most worthless measurements of player ability in the game. Sure a small handful of them are applied for legitimate reason, but the majority go to healbots who spam overhealing, tanks who simply pulled more than one mob, cat girls in bikinis, that one guy who plays a class you like, someone who pressed Peleton and so on. Most people don't even bother comm'ing. You also only get them for Duty Finder content, which is extremely easy.
There are people who have been playing years who are absolutely amazing players with indepth knowledge of multiple classes and roles, yet have less than 1k comms because they spend more time in EX, Savage and Ultimate content and do their Experts with friends. They're denied combat mentorship while the healbot who's Cure I and Medica II spammed their way through roulettes has a crown on their head.
The mentor system needs revising. There should be a Hall of the Expert that tests knowledge of all 3 roles at the very least and comms should be split into Performance, which is evaluated by the game, and Behavior, which is player evaluated and used for rewards and such as it is now.
I had a giant response typed out.. but .. this is such a carefully crafted maddening take on the mentor symbol.. it can't be serious.
Everything op posted was what good mentors AREN'T.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
As I said before, mentor dont mean that you are a good player, it only means that you know some basic information in order to help new players (Like DRK is a tank, DRG a dps, etc)Comms are quite possibly one of the most worthless measurements of player ability in the game. SE want mentors to have basic knowledge in order to help sprouts with basic questions
Comms internet power points! Honestly never understood why people want rewards for being "nice" and people call me an asshole.
Selli has over 15000 coms so...
Yeah...
I have a paltry 4400, but I also went a few years queueing as a full party for most things, and leaving instantly so... I'm sure mine are skewed.
