How on earth are you suppose to do this mission? 6 attempts and I can't work out what I'm suppose to do.
I am to charge a sword with magic. I have clicked on everything but I'm not able to activate anything. I'm just running around in circles.
Worst thing about it is I have to go through the story before I can try again.

i figure you're talking about this. solo duty walkthrough at the bottom. sounds like you need to click on the blade of light in front of alisae when it appears. i don't remember this duty at all, so good luck!

I have stood there in front of her clicking like a mad person but nothing. To make it worse I kill most of them but they magically pop back to life. What a truly annoying mission, in fact I think it's the first annoying mission I have had since starting FFXIV. I hope it's not a bug. I guess I'll have to keep on trying in the hope something works. I have to if I want to continue the story. Thanks for your reply.

Nope. It must be bugged, I can't click or activate anything. If it was a bug with the game then surly people would have reported it by now. Maybe it's my client that's broke.

I remember hearing about people having trouble with this a long time ago. It's probably still the same but just unclear in some way. Maybe watching other people do it on YouTube would help to see what order the objectives are supposed to be completed.

There are not many vids on it and those there are don't really try to explain it, but you can see how they complete it. Also there are quite a few redit posts on it that explain the mechanic. Sadly I cannot replicate any of it. This quest is so unlike the rest of the game, like it was made by a different company. The story and mechanics of this quest don't make any sense even if I could get them to work. From playing religiously every day my game has come to a screaming halt.
I may try again today but I very much doubt the result will be any different. I don't suppose re-installing the game wouldn't make any difference. I don't know, I'm at a loss.

Here's what you do:

1. If you're not past the level the content syncs you at, gain a level or two to help out with speed you kill things.

2. Make sure your gear is up to date, especially your weapon.

3. Your main class says Arcanist. Have you equipped your Scholar or Summoner soul stone and done your job quests? You'll get some stronger abilities as Summoner and Scholar. These solo duties are not balanced off people not having the soul stone equipped. Fix this if you do not have one of them equipped.

4. Make sure your in the mind set that you can complete this quest. Going in with a negative mindset only hurts your ability to actually complete the content. Go in with a positive attitude.

5. Don't be afraid to knock the difficulty down to Easy or Very Easy to give yourself a better buffer for getting by the mechanic that is stumping you. You can always come back in new game + or on an alt and defeat it on Normal and look at how much you improved since you first did this quest.

From what I remember when I did that fight is the Blade of Light was very difficult to target due to being obscured by a lot of the particle effects swirling around it (it was also poorly positioned really close to Alisaie so it was too easy to accidentally target her instead of the Blade of Light which is the real target, despite what the Duty List says, as it's lying through it's lying GUI teeth - you don't give your aether to Alisaie but the Blade of Light, which I had to move my camera view around in order to actually see the damn thing).

Another thing that is not apparent is the Blade of Light has scripted prompts when you need to target it and power it up which it is far too easy to miss and forget about, especially when you have five Echo-powered up ghosts snapping at your heels, so you have to spend time beating them back at least to give you time to target and interact with the Blade of Light. After targeting it and clicking on it, it then takes a good five to ten seconds to feed aether to it to increase the gauge, and because you are interacting with it, any of the Warriors of Darkness can interrupt you easily, meaning you have to start the process all over again. This is why it's crucial to beat down at least one or two of them (especially Ardbert the WAR or the PLD, as they're both tanks and naturally will go straight for you).

When you succeed in giving aether, you don't need to give any more to the Blade of Light til you are next prompted, so you can then spend time beating down the Warriors of Darkness some more, but just be aware they are all immortal and will come back to life after a few moments, but that can make things easier.

Really, the only way to win the fight is to ensure the Blade of Light is fully powered up before the BLM fires off an instant kill spell right at the end that wipes you and which you cannot protect yourself against, which means making sure you quickly feed the Blade of Light aether when prompted. The main issue is finding the Blade of Light to click on it, as unfortunately SE did not make it easy to locate in the heat of the battle.

Thank you so much for your help. It outlines in detail what I must do. as it stands the light meter never moves above one quarter. I have killed the warriors of darkness several times over always making sure the healer goes first, that gives me some free time to try and interact with the sword which unfortunately I can't.
I have a idea that might work. If I can log onto my friends computer maybe I can try to complete this quest on that just in case its a mouse issue or something. I know one thing, they could do worse than take a look at this quest and fix some of it's issues.

EDIT: No, what am I thinking? I will install my spare mouse just in case. Wish me luck.

You say you're clicking in front of her and nothing happens. Are you trying when the blade of light is there or when its not? The blade actually disappears for a short time after each aether filling cycle. Is there any chance you're trying before it appears, then get sidetracked by the mobs and don't see it reappear?

If you look in front of alisaie, the blade doesn't appear until time 6:09, about 20 seconds into the fight. They get pulled away by mobs for about a minute then finish filling it with aether at 7:17 and the sword disappears. The angle is bad but the blade reappears at 8:11, between Urianger and Alisaie, and at 8:37 they fill it some more and it disappears.

One thing you'll notice the player doing is rotating the camera to see it from the side and cycling through targets to select the sword. I don't play with a controller but you can use tab to cycle through targets on a keyboard; maybe that will help you select it if a mouse click is having trouble?

If it never appears at all, or does and won't let you interact then its a game bug you should report. You can try to reinstall the game but I don't think the issue is on your system, its more likely to be in the duty code on the server.
