PS NoviceNetwork by default... why...
there are 2 options i believe.
the first is to type /cm and then what ever you want the default to be. so if you want fc chat to be default you type "/cm fc" and hit enter
the second way is just type the chat channel with no message at all. so just "/p" or "/l" or "/y" and hit enter and it will change the default to that
it's persistant to so even if you log out and in the same chat channel is still defualt.
/cm was an XI thing. It's not a thing here. We just do a chat command with no message (your "second way").there are 2 options i believe.

The thing is it only persists across logins for people who are not sprouts or returners with Novice Network access. The devs assume, for whatever reason, that people in the novice network don't know how to change their current active channel and want them to be able to ask questions in NN without having to change channels, so any new adventurer or returner who is in the NN will default to NN next time they log in regardless of what their last chat active channel was. This is not a case of a missing feature, but rather missing faith in the user base.
If you want the game to be able to remember your active chat channel between logins, you have to be a mentor or do /novicenetworkleave
