Is it me or are shield drops rare?

Been running all day today with my paladin, just to test and from lvl 20-50, I'm not seeing any shield drop. Weapons, armor, even minions, but rarely do I see shield drop. So is it just me or has anyone else experience this?

They can be rare because only 3 classes/jobs use them below level 50 and only 1 job uses them past level 50. That makes them one out of roughly 50 different gear drops in dungeons up to 50 and 80 in dungeons 50+ (when left side gear splits into 7 categories instead of 3).

Shields are a regular quest reward once past level 50 for GLA/PLD and there's always the marketboard if you've already completed the quests that reward them and took a different item.

I've done 20 dungeons without getting 1 shield.
So I hope I can just buy it with some sort of token endgame.

Shields will drop separate in low level dungeons. I know they drop together in higher level trials but can't say I've noticed if it's true in higher level dungeons (I was always using tomestone gear by that point). You're still trying to beat the odds of all the other items in a chest's loot table (assuming weapons are even possible in a given chest).

They'll also drop together in weapon coffers when those are quest rewards.

The normal tomestone cost for a weapon is split 70/30 between sword and shield for PLD so you can buy them separately.
