    Giving up on Chocobo Racing

The recent "Make It Rain" campaign got me excited about trying out Chocobo Racing, and for the first Rank or so it wasn't that bad. But now that I'm Rank 4 it's absolutely impossible to win races, even the ones for no rewards against the NPCs. Aside from a ridiculously high race IQ, the difference in stats is so pronounced that I have no desire to keep playing it. This needs an overhaul, badly.

you can upgrade your choco stats by feeding them . its possible at the desk where youre registering for race in Gold Saucer.

In addition to this, you can influence the cap they get on specific stats through chocobo breeding. You can also breed for different race traits or use manuals to learn a new one.

It is supposed to be a time investment to breed and get the "perfect" racing chocobo. There are a few guides available online if you want more information.

Yes, as the others have said, you can train your chocobo every time you level up. Each level, some stats go up seemingly randomly, but you earn training sessions with every rank up. These are used by buying feed from the trainer, to increase either of the five attributes. And the higher Pedigree (overall level, 1 - 9) of your choco, the higher the max level of those stats.

You already know about breeding since you're 4, but if you haven't, put some thought into the "stars" of the GRANDPARENTS (each mating pair displays what its parents' stars were in each stat). Those are factored into what the offspring's stats (stars) will be.

Choco racing is for the long haul..

    I'm giving up too.
Pushed my first bird to 40 last week just to see how the breeding works.
Made a 5-2-2-3-2 which is slightly better than his dad 2-2-2-2-2, with whom I had like a 20% win rate.
This new bird is stuck at rank 30 now, I spammed all the gil feed possible into endurance/speed and CAN. NOT. WIN.

Not just that I can't win on him, I come dead last 9/10 times, with everyone having 10-20% stamina left over when I'm already at 0%.
All against bots might I add. So I fed him everything I can, all the time capped training.
They never break or slow down, and I can't catch them, can't beat their stamina or endurance.
Absolutely ridiculous. It's almost a forced p2win, because apparently g1 feed is useless, and players are forced to buy the expensive g2-g3 MGP feed.

These insane bot stats aside, the actual racing has barely any skill requirement.
You are constantly, instantly lathered, all the time.
What is the point in breaking if it does nothing?

A better design would have been this:
Balance the stamina bar. No need to hold W down first of all, it's stupid.
Just tap W or S once. Shift gears up and down.
    You go slow green-yellow-orange-red.
Respectfully increased speed and stamina drain.

You also generate stamina all the time.
So a good gameplay race would be like managing your "fuel bar"
by knowing when to slow down or go hard.

The current system sucks so much.
You're ALWAYS being lathered drained dead snailing instantly.
No room for any skillful decisions, no stamina bar management at all.
You just glue a brick on W and pray the bots have lower stats than you.

    Redesign time.
Also, increase the turning angle, remove the random turning "like a leaf in the wind",
and make walls slow you down 5-10% on contact if you want to make racing GOOD.

Please know that you shouldn't be accelerating through the entire race! It's an inefficient use of stamina.
"Lathered" means you have accelerated to a point where you are rapidly burning through your stamina.
This minigame is very much about stamina management, and if you accelerate the entire time, you will lose every race.

Stats are important, but it's also heavily luck based. Sometimes you just need the right chests.

I'd also look into learning a better skill if the one they know currently isn't helping.
