There are market board bots updating their prices every 20-30 min to once every few hours, where we got tons of evidence of this not being human activity. It's gotten so bad that all the real human crafters of the realm got together to discuss this and share our knowledge. The conclusion is that it typically take SE 1 month to ban a bot after it's reported.

If the primary crafters of the realm go on hiatus, as there's no fun competing against cheaters, then the market will be a complete NPC experience but where all the gil goes to RMT activities. Cutting this off at the source will increase the overall experience for most people as they won't be constantly harassed by RMT spam. However, this requires SE to be able to respond to the botting in a quicker fashion. This is a mental drain on anyone into the crafting part of the game once they reach end game and discover the rampant amount of cheating, as there's a limit to how long they want to do this before they instead return to some single player experience if they're going to be fighting bots anyways.
