It's been years since I've played it, and while I own WOL on my phone, I don't really feel like staring at that tiny screen for 40+ hours.

Not officially.
So, while not officially is a thing, there is a more legal answer than the obvious.
If you use an android emulator like Noxplayer or Bluestacks, and sign into the play store with your google account you can play your phone version of war of the lions on your computer. In lieu of the touch controls you can even set up keyboard shortcuts to specific touch things or to the in game controller support it likely has (or just plug a controller into your computer)
Why is this in the lore section![]()

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Whew lad, your point of view in life is surely something special.
I'd go with General Discussion, since you're not asking about the lore or how it connects, but merely for an option to play the game with.

Not only that, but the lore of Tactics doesn't DIRECTLY connect to FFXIV anyway.
Tactics, and XII, were very LOOSESLY incorporated into the Ivalice/Dalmasca stuff in FFXIV. But it's a new version of Ivalice. Not a sequel to Tactics/XII. It's a new worold, events play out differently.
It's similar to how the crystal tower raids are inspired by FF 3, but the stuff taken from FF3 is reworked into a new world, not a sequel or prequel to 3.
Playing tactics won't really do much for understanding FFXIV's lore better because while it does borrow things, it does a lot different and so you can't really assume that things in tactics apply to XIV anyway.
