Dying is like any other recipe, you have to be withing range to make the item with the proper craft to dye it.

Are you trying to make the item with the dye, or are you making the item then using the dye? Also, different color dyes work with different base fabrics/leathers... so maybe those aren't matching up.

I bet this is the issue. Not everything can be dyed per your liking. Crafted items can only be colored X colors not all. Also, the recipes have changed a LOT. Have you tried using MoogleBox or any of the other sites that really cater to items and crafting?

Yup, if you give it a bit of time and use the correct abilities you will soon realise just how much better the system is.

Oh... I'm not sure I would go that far. Standard Synthesis gives 1-20% progress, Rapid Synthesis gives 1-35% progress, and Careful synthesis gives 1-20% progress. Careful synthesis is the only one that gives you improved quality, but that is often as low as 1% improvement. So where is the difference? They are all so random that you can't rely on them to behave in any predictable way.
The old system always gave you about 8-10% decrease in durability if you used Careful synthesis and 8-11% decrease in durability for Standard. Careful gave you 3-5% increase in progress and Standard gave you 10-20% progress. It was predictable and you could plan for how you wanted to craft.
This new system is too random. You never know what it will do and I am losing 50% of my raw materials in order to gain 300-500 experience points with each crafting. That averages out to 150-250 experience points per crafting which is what I was getting with the old system.

I would like to speak to an NPC about crafting... instead of searching on the internet, he/she could mentor me on what I want and what I need for it. Where do I get it and what level I need to be to craft it and stuff. More like a resource in-game for those of us you can't access the internet while in-game. Those of us who don't want go through the trouble with a limited connection.

It's just an idea of convenience. Like a search function for crafts. ;D

again, not to hate on the wiki but SE could do it or not?

2.0 all recipes you know will be in a database with your character and you will have to quest new higher recipes to make the new gear

As Green said in 2.0 we are getting a recipe book, many recipes will be learn as you level, some will be earned from completing leves and others will require the completion of quests.

Instead of choosing items from your inventory you will choose the recipe you want to craft, the recipe will indicate whether you have the materials prior to synthesis.

I did like the way FF11 required you to ask the NPC to discover new recipes, its just too bad 11 didn't have a recipe book to remember them.
