Can't get 1000 when you start with 500 on a -10 recipe? Might want to post which abilities you are using and your crafting stats.

Who's to say that's not luck, really bad luck... I agree HQ has been nerfed, but can not say with certainty it's broken. This is how broken the HQ system is, crafting the other day get 965 quality and it makes me double down, boom, next synth 925 quality HQ, next synth 762 quality HQ, next synth 995 quality double down, boom, you would think that at a certain percentage it would not make you double down and at the lower percentages it would ask you to try to double down, these synths here and the total quality and fail to make HQ vs lower quality and getting HQ is broke as hell.
I have found a way to make Gil on this crappy new system, so I won't complain too much, but I still like the old better.
IMO, it's way better than the old system. You may have just gotten too used to it.
If you stare at a painting for too long, you'll start to ignore all the gaping flaws in it. But if you come back to it after stepping away for a while, those flaws stick out like a sore thumb.

^ Exactly before this patch HQ was very easy to obtain, people have just got used to that and now they feel self entitled to get a HQ every 3-4 synths.
HQ's are supposed to be special not 2 a penny.
SE probably saw the marketwards flooded with HQ items and thought wait up we need to correct this before it gets out of hand.
If this was the reasoning, HQ items need a good buffing, at the moment there is just a slight amount of defense buffed, and maybe a bit more of one of the stats.^ Exactly before this patch HQ was very easy to obtain, people have just got used to that and now they feel self entitled to get a HQ every 3-4 synths.

The best thing about HQ is the 5% buff to double melding... And that's still a real crap shoot.
You still can easy HQ everything when all ingredients are +1, the only thing that really matters now is that you have acess to the right skills.

Comment on low level crafting... After gaining maybe 20 levels in leatherwork, weaving, carpenter, armorer, goldsmith I can say the new system is just plain strange. Moving from level 15 to 25 I have seen the percentage of successful outcomes actually go down as the experience also decreased from 950 per craft to 350 per craft on the same item. The new skills are mostly useful but some don't seem to do anything. Skills to boost quality don't seem to do much. Still, gaining experience is faster, no question. I can level up a level in about an hour of dedicated work. I can also craft stuff way over my level which I couldn't touch before. I have gotten over 1000 experience for a single crafting many times over. It is a crap shoot though. The element stabilization ability rarely actually works and I haven't figured out when it is going to work. When it works you get a massive increase in quality and progress on the next crafting with minimal decrease in durability. I used to be able to get 1000 quality on a regular basis but haven't seen it on the new system. Curiously I have gotten HQ items on less than 800 quality several times without double down. Still, I have gotten 0% progress on Standard and Careful syntheses which never happened in the old system. Also when running +80% quality I apply one of the quality boosters and the quality drops to +25% -- hardly a quality boost! Overall I like the new system, though I find it frustrating as hell.

Going back on topic...to make crafting perfect, I think all we need now is:
1) Ability to continue on last recipe without selecting it from menu (like in a leve)
