Lag spikes in instances but no latency increase?

Hi, I started back up a month ago, and it was fine until a week ago when I noticed that I get lag spikes whenever i start doing instances, whether its raids, dungeons or trials.

Now, the odd part is that my net is fine. I would look at the top right and it would show "0" on receiving YET when I look at the resource monitor on my other screen it would still show actual numbers. and the latency would be normal.

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on and how I can fix this? Thank you.

Could be due to how many instances are actually filled with people running dungeons/ect?

Yeah, my internet is fine as well but I've also had an increase in lag spikes lately inside instances and cities. Never lasts long but it's definitely not normal for me. The servers are probably just struggling right now with the sudden massive influx of players.

I can believe that. We haven't had a spike in new players this big since Shadowbringers launched.

Well this seems very unfortunate. It means I can't do anything then? Am I shit outta luck in doing instance stuff or just...have to get lucky and not lag out during mechanics and what not?

I would suggest maybe trying to create a character on another data centre. Not that you'll want to play on a different data centre, but it might give you a little more data on where exactly the issue is coming from (whether it's your connection to the data centre, whether it seems like a connection issue with the game as a whole, etc.) Have you noticed any connection issues with any other programs and/or have you made any recent changes to your PC?

I noticed that I have slightly more input lag, or whatever it is called, when doing trials and raids.

@strider No other issues with other games or programs. I tried out BF4 and had no issues, I've done the ping test using the command menu and it seems fine as well.

I can try the new character thing in the next day or 2, would need to level it up to get to a dungeon though. 95% of the time this happens while in an instance.

If I remember what Yoshi said correctly, the instance servers are separate physical servers from the world servers and all worlds on a DC share the same instance servers. What you're describing is latency on the instance server due to high load and not lag from internet traffic. I think all NA DCs are going through similar growing pains so I wouldn't be confident in saying switching DCs will solve the issue but if you have any flexibility in your schedule, try to play off peak hours. That may help the issue you're seeing.

Ultimately, this isn't a problem you can solve, its purely in SE's hands. They are trying to get new hardware but the last update we had on that is it will be late in EW or into the next expansion before it happens. Its not that they're dragging their feet but properly upgrading the hardware is a time consuming process, made more so with the pandemic.

Unfortunately as Yoshi himself have mentioned, the pandemic have made it difficult to spontaneously increase the amount of servers due to hardware being sold out so the servers we have now are pushed to their limits.
