    Sage Icon Suggestion

This is just a quick modification I made to the Sage icon in Adobe Photoshop.

I used the same elements from the presented modified icon.

I do not like the "threading the needle" aspect of the neuliths, so I removed that part of the visual.

I copied and pasted the central lith, adjusted the positioning, and slightly rotated the liths to show my preference for the icon.

I like the change but they still left the hole on the one at the bottom haha. I would prefer if it was 4 of them next to each other without the holes; something like this [pppp]

I'm not a fan of the reasoning behind the change. It encourages more people to petition to remove things based on rather thin reasoning. There's plenty of things I dislike or feel disgust towards that I tolerate because I do not believe that every last little thing needs to be catered to me, specifically.

For example, I dislike the sight and texture of slugs and snails but I'm not going to ask for them to be removed from the game.

I'm getting worried about Endwalker. It's meant to the finale of the game's main established story arcs and a second coming of the apocalypse. Are we going to reach a point where barely anything can be 'upsetting'?

This is essentially my stance on it. If you start attempting to cater to every single small issue that people have, with a player base of a million plus players, you are left with bland wet toast design decisions.

I preferred the previous design, but I understand that it affected some people and neither design affects me at all so I don't care about the icon outcome in the slightest.

I just don't think design decisions should be based on an extreme minority of the playerbase phobia, a phobia that is largely self diagnosed, self described and isn't an official disorder.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Agreed. I sincerely hope they won't let this affect 6.0's design, given that it's meant to be an apocalypse with quite a bit of body horror, based on what's been teased, which should mean it contains amply more "triggering" material than some icon is claimed to. Again, there are several icons in the game (blades, fire, etc.) that could "trigger" several phobias, and Reaper's scythe could just as easily be modified to avoid one. It's unnecessary. Whatever "tryphophobia" may be, I experience a similar sensation, but it wouldn't be from an icon like this, but from a more visceral image e.g. overlaying a structure like a honeycomb over human body parts. Even so, it wouldn't stop me from exposing myself to it in a game, much as I do with monstrous spiders, even though I have a rather strong form of arachnophobia. An itty bitty little icon on the side of the screen won't trigger that. So I do hope this doesn't trickle over into the rest of 6.0's design. Reminds me of their desire that healers and tanks don't experience "anxiety" and the rather simplified mechanics they now have.

The claims over "well it's just an icon, why get upset over it" (as Theodric said, it's more disbelief at how flimsy the reasoning is) cut both ways in the end.

SE should be as open as any other company to scepticism when it comes to this sort of attempt at building brand loyalty through token gestures that require little effort of it.

It may be simple, but I would like to see this as the new job-icon.
No "mouth", no holes. Sorry for the bad quality. Made it quick in gimp.

    The best redesign so far.

So much better, though I still prefer them just lined up in a row.

I also really like this redesign. I didn't like the first one because of the rod going through the hole... seemed weird and also I don't think nouliths do that? So why does the job icon have that???
