Unfortunately this seems like just the beginning. Give these people an inch they’ll take a yard. Who knows what other things on game now will start to trigger them and they’ll need to be pandered to yet again.
I don't want to put words into his mouth, but I think it was a generalization.
One of the many problems with the modern world is that hypochondria has been glamorized into a fashionable infirmity. Everyone seems to have self-diagnosed themselves with some form of crippling disease or disorder. They then utilize their newly-proclaimed enfeeblement to exert authority and wield power over others.

It feels more like a reach with their comment honestly. Mainly cause the complaints about the icon solely came from the JPN community, and JPN rarely if ever bends to western knee jerk culture and ultimatums in entertainment media.
If it is a beginning for anything it is assumptions.
Solo Deaf Player doing solo deaf player things.
Huh I'm actually surprised the complaints come from jp fanbase, considering Japan's art is no stranger to pattern that resulted in "holes".
I have trypophobia but I really can't see how the old sage icon triggers it. The holes are very low in number (4, in fact one of them are not closed circles) and quite big enough.
Oh well what's done is done. I dislike the new icon, doesn't even feels like a sage. Should have been more symmetrical or perhaps form a half halo. If anything, one thing that I got from thing whole thing is that they really listen to the jp side fanbase lol. Not that weird considering this is Japanese game, but it's kinda envious.

Im cool with the change
Because typically in these situations you give them an inch they’ll take a yard and expect their every whim to be addressed and pandered to them.Fact of the matter is, they shouldve either done a poll to gauge everyones thoughts on the matter since it was such a minority complaining about it, or they shouldve just done it behind the scenes. As of right now it just looks like a scummy pr move.

I suspect they'll keep using the same criteria they've always used when addressing complaints and requests. Time and effort required vs. demand and/or outcry for change.
They received a lot of negative feedback and it was quick and easy to change. This doesn't apply to many of the wild what-if scenarios people have thrown about.

...
i mean, ok
thought trypophobia was internet nonsense on level of alexandria's genesis?
It's pretty much internet nonsense. Trypophobia describes an unsettling feeling provoked by certain visuals, but the idea that it's in some way emotionally crippling is just invented. This is a real disorder that actually destroys lives. Trypophobia isn't - and it can't be. Because you just can't get away from holes in things - it's the world we live in; stuff has depressions, pockmarks, craters, etc. If every one of those little things sent people into convulsions, or a trip to the hospital, I think we'd be hearing about it.
