Can we take action against Bard Macro Player yet?

Boy, people sure do love crying about things that aren't harming anyone. It really comes off as one of those "I'm afraid of getting banned, so instead of using mods I'm going to try and make sure they're taken away from everybody else" things.

I get it, some people aren't musically talented enough, some just want to play songs, and I feel that is fine if you are just playing for your friends and such.

But what bothers me is when you pretend you ARE playing songs and acting as if you are so great because you let a third party tool play it for you.

It's really annoying walking into towns and just hearing it sound like people just throw midi keyboards down a flight of stairs.

There are people, such as myself, who actually practice playing these songs, and we get immediately overshadowed by people who just press play on a program. There is no competition, we lose because it's impossible for us to play songs at a normal place without either conforming to third party software ourselves, or hooking up an actual midi keyboard (which I would be more okay with!).

I think the bard macro playing has gotten way out of hand. It's really annoying and off putting.


Playing songs is one of my favorite things to do in FFXIV, I practice for hours every single day, and now I have to turn off performance completely because it just isn't fun anymore trying to play music for people, but getting immediately decimated by someone who can press play, make a sandwich and come back without putting any effort into learning any song what so ever.

and? You want a cookie? It's a game get over it. You want to practice music then stream it and gain an audience. Most people don't even care when people are playing music

I just feel the rules should apply to everybody.

So yes, if your having inputs put into the game, that arn't yours, that's botting, and should be a ban.
I don't care if it's inputs from chat and your a streamer, inputs from a midi file, or inputs from a scripting program that runs dungeons for you.
It's all botting, it's all reportable, and that's only fair.

Bard Music Player doesn't hurt you, your gameplay or the community as a whole.

If anything the Bard bands bring fun to servers with their concerts.

You might be more right than you think. Consider the hunt problems where S ranks are killed in minutes, even if you play on a console there is nothing stopping you from loading up discord and going to a channel that has the same info displayed as the 3rd party add on. Should Discord be banned in the sense that the client will kick you off if it detects you connecting to the discord IP?

Honestly, the one and only time I've performed an original composition of mine in this game, I ended up making a game-performance-suitable MIDI of the composition and playing it via Bard Music Player, because trying to play it any other way was a path to frustration and fury. Muscle memory tripped me up using a MIDI keyboard (because, as noted, chords), and I find the alphanumeric keyboard method aggravating.

That would be awesome. I already got my music performance and composition degrees already for real instruments, I'd rather just compose music to be played using these MIDI instruments than have to try and play the fake instruments using a computer keyboard.
