Can we take action against Bard Macro Player yet?

I get it, some people aren't musically talented enough, some just want to play songs, and I feel that is fine if you are just playing for your friends and such.

But what bothers me is when you pretend you ARE playing songs and acting as if you are so great because you let a third party tool play it for you.

It's really annoying walking into towns and just hearing it sound like people just throw midi keyboards down a flight of stairs.

There are people, such as myself, who actually practice playing these songs, and we get immediately overshadowed by people who just press play on a program. There is no competition, we lose because it's impossible for us to play songs at a normal place without either conforming to third party software ourselves, or hooking up an actual midi keyboard (which I would be more okay with!).

I think the bard macro playing has gotten way out of hand. It's really annoying and off putting.


Playing songs is one of my favorite things to do in FFXIV, I practice for hours every single day, and now I have to turn off performance completely because it just isn't fun anymore trying to play music for people, but getting immediately decimated by someone who can press play, make a sandwich and come back without putting any effort into learning any song what so ever.

Maybe they aren't using macros. Maybe they are just that bad for real. Last bard player I listened to did a rendition of Ocarina of Time and was perfect. The rest burn my ears off my head and I end up teleporting out.

Yeah, there's a lot of great bard performance groups out there. Whether or not they are using a macro (usually they are) is of no concern to me.

Dear Square Enix,

Please delete Performer Mode.

As a musician IRL I don't feel as if I can compete with those who are using your virtual keyboard software and it's extremely unfair.

People keep ignoring me IRL and instead come onto your game to listen to these ... 'bards' playing music without even using a real instrument while claiming to be musicians. /satire

Can understand why the OP would be frustrated if someone was lying about playing the music themselves or got beaten in some kind of contest but if you're just playing music then... just play? Surely the very quality of the music will be inherently distinctive and different if you're not just running the same copypasta midi file, lol.

There is no competition because there isn't *supposed* to be any competition. You've decided, all on your own, that there is this big investment in skillful playing of songs in the game when there is not. Most people just want to hear music. They don't care if the person is doing it "The TRUE way".

If *you* think that it matters, fine. But to suggest that they "take action" against players using a simple playing program is beyond ridiculous. If this is a chief concern for you, take a look at what you spend your life on and reevaluate. This is the equivalent of the old lady in the neighborhood telling kids not to skateboard on the sidewalk because she has nothing better to do with her time.

Just let people play their music and move on.
