Jesus man, if it upsets you that much maybe you should consider a new hobby.
Isn't stuff supposed to be, I dunno for 'fun' in the game? On Balmung I've attended a lot of RP events over the years that are fun social gatherings, parties, cafes, celebrations and there will usually be a couple of people who are there playing their bard songs, I assume using midis and the like. So if they were banned, stuff like that, people would have to what? Find the rare individuals who take that kind of time? Pay them to perform? It's just such a harmless thing to come across it feels jarring to see it be targetted for a "Can we ban these horrible people please? They're stealing my spotlight". Is this about making gil? Praise? What? It always worries me when I see people jump on a "Let us police what other people are doing" train.
You hit it in the sentence right before.
Some people are only happy with a feeling of exclusivity - that no one else or very few people can do or have what they can do or have. So anything that threatens their exclusive status becomes the enemy.
This is also why you have things like "old money vs new money" and similar dynamics in wider society.
In this specific case and in this specific community, third party apps are often frowned upon at best, so it's more predisposed to hit sympathetic notes.
Sadly the OP misses the point of music. It's to bring people together, not monopolize it and keep people apart. There's a lot of people in any number of games with music systems who have this elitist mentality. Trust me, you'll have much more fame encouraging people to just be interested in music and not discriminating how they do it, than if you scare people away just so you can have it your way. Remember be excellent to each other.
You are petty.
I have performance volume muted so I have no horse in this race.
But this is basically just RP content and if it bothers you because you can tell then listen to someone else.
I don’t listen to Pop music because I don’t like autotune but is the excuse to demand the industry ban the technology? Or for me to just change to a different genre or artist?
The main problem is playing copyrighted songs with bard perform. The ToS say not to do this, and they even present it to you in game, yet almost all songs I hear people play are from popular games or media.
Isnt it lame people are playing a video game someone else made and not making one themselves? Takes away from other game creators. Probably should fix this issue. The real argument against players using third-party bots to play MIDI files isn't that it's ultra-lame (although, real talk: it is. Please stop with the rationalizations, the current state of things is not much different than somehow streaming an 80s Pop Hits channel from Pandora into Gridania.)
The real argument is that MIDIs of copywritten songs are derivative works and it's likely infringement for SE to allow these bot-players to so easily perform (or, you know, at all). At least when you had to actually play something yourself, it reduced the number of hacks by like 99%, which the OP kind of obtusely alluded to.
Metallica and their lawyers will probably hear Enter Sandman playing in Limsa from all the way in Colorado, and the more popular this feature becomes, the more likely it is that it's going to somehow get ruined for everybody.
All that said, I don't expect SE to do anything until they're literally forced to.
Let's just ban all midi instruments from music production as well, since nowadays you can barely tell if something is a live instrument or just a good midi, and they are overshadowing actual musicians. Or just let people enjoy what they do. Also when you hear a complicated song played from a midi that actually sound good then there's probably some work behind it. I find the midis on the BMP site to be pretty basic and boring so I just download some midi files online and spend an hour or two editing them so I can fit as much of it in there as the game can handle without it becoming a mess due to the lack of polyphony. I spent quite a few hours working on midis in my DAW and I'm pretty proud of some of my works.
