Can we take action against Bard Macro Player yet?

As someone who has been involved in music since I was 5 years old... I'd really like to care enough about MIDIs and macros to get rid of the input delay when I play manually and install some. :P The delay ruined Performance for me more than someone else's way of playing did. In fact I don't blame others for automating it; songs sound very ugly otherwise.

I already took an action against it a long time ago, I muted Performance in the settings. In every city there are 3-4 "bots" playing, the crowd noises are bad enough...

I wouldn't at all be sad if action was brought against those using third party software for their music purely on the basis that it is an advantage for those playing on a specific platform. While it may be harmless in the face of more impactful instances of third party software it is an advantage entirely unavailable to anyone enjoying the game on a console. Now, I'd rather not take away the enjoyment PC players have had with the feature but rather bring an in-game support auto-play feature so that everyone can get the same enjoyment from the bardic music feature.

Dont compare those, that is the dumbest comparision ever. A console player can spend 20 dollars and get a keyboard they can use lol.

There are people, such as myself, who actually practice playing these songs, and we get immediately overshadowed by people who just press play on a program. There is no competition, we lose because it's impossible for us to play songs at a normal place without either conforming to third party software ourselves, or hooking up an actual midi keyboard (which I would be more okay with!).

Speaking from personal experience, the MIDI keyboard route doesn't work well either. I've got a program that can map my MIDI keyboard to actual alphanumeric keyboard keys, and you can absolutely use that to play in FFXIV's performance system; I've done so. However, muscle memory trips me up when I do, because I will try to play chords on the keyboard, which the performance system does not (natively) support.

In all honesty, if I wanted to perform any of my own original songs, I'd actually be fairly tempted to create the MIDI of the song and then use something like Bard Music Player specifically so I could have chords (or a vague semblance thereof). :|

I get it, some people aren't musically talented enough, some just want to play songs, and I feel that is fine if you are just playing for your friends and such.

But what bothers me is when you pretend you ARE playing songs and acting as if you are so great because you let a third party tool play it for you.

It's really annoying walking into towns and just hearing it sound like people just throw midi keyboards down a flight of stairs.

I think the bard macro playing has gotten way out of hand. It's really annoying and off putting.


Playing songs is one of my favorite things to do in FFXIV, I practice for hours every single day, and now I have to turn off performance completely because it just isn't fun anymore trying to play music for people, but getting immediately decimated by someone who can press play, make a sandwich and come back without putting any effort into learning any song what so ever.

I know it's sad for all the ppl who are playing on it's own and yes I agree these AFK bards are sometimes anoying. I have simply turned the bard sounds off and that's it.

From what I heared of (pun intended):
But on the other hand, you may don't know how hard it can be to create or adapt songs for this game and for 1-8 bards, yeah you can clearly create songs they sound like crap in a matter of seconds, but good sounding stuff isn't easy to build.
Now you have a good sounding file and you want to play it, sure play it solo, with you multi-boxing accs like most ppl or do. In this case you have to get them up to level 30 or buy something from the shop.
Or you can try it the hard way: play it with 8 other bards from different countries.
Last one isn't easy, even if you want to play one song, you have to get all the ppl together and they must have the time for this.
Maybe you can imagine what task it can be if you are sheduling an event for one hour.

On the bright side, this is bringing ppl together, they having fun and made some other ppl stay and listen or gettn involed in rp.

Btw: On some servers the solo and multi bards are playing one by one. First song one bard, next one the other bard and so on. Sometimes they doing a bard battle too.
