..just curious, why are you paying more for extra characters? You get a total of 8 for the same price as normal monthly if you pay several months at once.As someone who has many characters (and who pays more each month to have said characters) I often wish that mounts, minions and all mogstation purchases except dyes, eternal bondings, fantasias and boosts were account wide.
I know people will say you don't need multiple characters in this game and that's true but some folks like having them anyway.
This is a change I would love.
...And it would get me to buy things on the store like all the time, just saying.

Starter doesn't allow more than one character per server. My alts tend to run with the same FCs. That's pretty common for RP groups on Crystal.

I believe the starter edition vs complete is about which expansions you purchase (“starter” vs “complete”) whereas the payment method gives you additional characters (“entry” vs “standard”).
The monthly price for “entry” package is identical to the “standard” which includes 8 characters, if you pay 3 months at a time.
I don’t know whether that is available to a “starter edition” account, but if this is of interest maybe double check if you’re playing long term and want extra characters. Hopefully you can get something!

I might be using the wrong terminology then. The account subscription that is cheaper, the one that allows 8 characters, does not allow them all on the same server. So I prefer standard sub.I believe the starter edition vs complete is about which expansions you purchase (“starter” vs “complete”) whereas the payment method gives you additional characters (“entry” vs “standard”).

Standard is what I pay when I play literally any other MMORPG (except Guild Wars 2) so meh.
I strongly suspect the reason stuff isn't account wide is (in addition to money) the fact that there is something deeply wrong with how XIV manages character data. Like 'Lovecraftian' wrong. Like 'You get a peek at what they are working with and bound too and your mind goes mad from the revelation' wrong.
It seems every item has way too much data associated with it when its stored in your character. Most games could easily handle an account wide 'collection' (like, a simple yes/no collection list for every item in the game for every player would probably fit on an SD card) but for some reason XIV can't, even though that would be something extremely easy to do. It may have to do with how complicated item states were and it was implemented in a janky way in 1.0 to keep track of dye, materia, spirit bonding, durability, and glam state, and location, and we are just stuck with that.
I'm sure this is at least partly the reason. The way the game seems to handle character data and inventory is a disaster. I'd like to see that change. Imagine what this dev team could do with a more robust and future proofed game engine.

Got to love how this game is simultaneously one of the most alt friendly and unfriendly mmo's there is...

It is by far the most alt unfriendly game out there but it is the most friendly to player time.
My alts might as well be new accounts aside from exp earrings and vet awards.
But it's nice to know I don't NEED them, if there is something I really want to do on x class I can do it my main here without having to get an alt all the way through the MSQ to level cap again.

When SWTOR first introduced their cash shop and armor sets they did OK , then when they added the collections feature which added the armor set (glam sets in this game) , mounts , colour crystals ( which change the glow of sabres , or lasers from guns) etc etc to your collection for the character that consumed the cash shop item meaning you could make as many copies of it on your character and also the option for a smaller cash shop currency amount ( cartel coins) so you could unlock the collection item for any of your characters , their financials for SWTOR went through the roof.
It went from only people that couldn't help themselves with cash shop purchases , to many many people including myself buying their cash shop currency , in order to buy stuff then unlock it for account (mounts mostly).
They also have a legacy system which i miss a lot which allowed you to use in game currency or cash shop coins bought with real money to permantly unlock stuff for your server . so for example rocket boost which is like a very fast sprint which lasts for 12 seconds, on a 60 sec cooldown and can be used where mounts cant (must be outside of combat though) or my all time fave which is reduce mount cast bar by xxx secs ( 3 unlock tiers) which makes it insta cast once fully unlocked.

Spaghetti code and money is why we can't have nice things.
