Geomancer

Yup…getting my request in early. Geomancer as a tank. A melee tank that uses an earth bending skill of combat to damage and defend. Not sure if this post will catch traction, but I think it would be crazy good. Imagine it…channeling stones around you fist and feet to deal damage or stone armor to protect yourself from tank busters. Not sure if SE would consider it since we already have MNK and it isn’t canon, but Reaver and Sage prove they can make new jobs.

I doubt we're getting new Tanks or Healers for a long time, if ever. Geomancer would work much better as a Magical Ranged DPS if you ask me.

Asking for anything in this game will just be relegated to DPS, the only class healers wanted was Chemist and they couldn't bother to come up with something and just half assed another light based magic user

Geomancy is already in the game's lore anyway as being just what the Far East call Conjury (a magic user revolving around earth, wind and water spells with healing thrown into the mix), so it's just CNJ/WHM under a different name (GEOs show up as enemies in the Swallow's Compass and they're just CNJs). Thus it will never be a tank I'm afraid.

All the Chemist ideas I saw were kind of boring, even if Sage is also boring at the very least it has looking cool going for it.

I also wanted to say while Reaper is new Sage isn’t. It is a job in final fantasy, though this is XIV’s own take on the job. I could honestly see Gemonancer if it were to ever come as a ranged dps more than a tank if they redid how it spells worked. Otherwise it would just be a conjurer.

I don't know, with how light/holy-focused WHM has been, I think there is room for a new job to take over the whole nature-aspect CNJ had.

I forget where I saw it but there was an interview where (I think it was Yoshi P) said the mechanics of Sage were designed first and then they put a name to it after, and considered Chemist but thought Sage fit better. So they're just using the name with little regard to what the job was in previous FF games because tbh a lot of them don't have much to go by anyway - Sage has always been a White and Black magic user, sometimes with summon magic. So if they make a Geomancer it could be anything.

What matters more imo is having a job that's different enough from existing jobs to justify its existence. I could see Geo being a tank that's relatively squishy by default and has to manage a number of buffs to deal and mitigate damage proactively. Minimal self heals, maybe more control like aoe stuns/binds. (Not sure if any existing tank does this, I've only played DRK.)
