Am I wasting my time with Housing?

    Hi everyone

I started playing about a week ago, and am really loving it so far! like EVERY ASPECT! one big part of the game that I've found myself really liking the idea of is housing. Its always been a feature I've loved in games. Fallout 76 for instance, all I ever do in that game anymore is just build camps!

Im playing on Atomos and with the help of some Gil from my friend, I managed to buy myself a small plot in Mists! I was over the moon haha i sat there all day waiting and clicking, and got it! woot! I was really hoping to find a medium or large plot to really sink my builder/decorator teeth into. I've been reading reddit, and other websites on housing and one common theme I see is that its basically going to be next to impossible to find a plot bigger than small to buy. No one moves, and when they do its either, you miss out as someone got there first, OR, on the more shady side, people advertise their plots of discords and reddits for stupid amounts of Gil, like 10s or hundreds of millions.

Not gonna lie, its kinda devastating for someone like me that this is the situation. i feel like I'm gonna be spending most of my time browsing the district lists on the off chance one comes up.

Is it really such a lost cause? do mediums or large plots EVER come up on those lists? have people really played for months and never seen one? Are all of these plots now reserved for people on secret websites and communities to trade for gil or real money? (ive seen a few people advertising for real money in a few places)

Sorry I guess this is kind of a vent post as well as a discussion/opinion/question post.

    Hello,

I can't really anwser your questions since I am fairly new myself, but I know that with each expansion they add new housing areas. So with a new expansion coming there is a chance. Also I read that they will be changing the way lots are sold to a lottery. So outside the backroom, which might still happen, it might be easier to get a bigger plot in a few months.

You'll get a house, it's going to happen! Trust me ^^

Just don't start camping the placards for like 12h at a time ^^'

It's basically, just RNG so keep playing normally and when you're coincidentally in a city with housing go check things quickly... But don't let it become an unhealthy obsession like it is for many people here ^^

    Good luck hunting!

    Hope my answer isn’t disappointing,

Enjoy what you have; you can always remodel your small/medium house at any cosmetic appearance sorts without penalty. L houses do provide more room & space yes, but can often feel overwhelming depending how you interpret it.

Not trying to direct “humility” at you, rather enjoy what you have & can do,

No need to feel devastated & you’ve already earned what most players still strives to have.

Don’t get caught up on the game just because everyone’s on it like a stampede of christmas shopping.

Rather get what exactly would you desire to have

its still some time away but with 6.1 they will add a new housing area, chances are they will also add a few additional wards to the existing housing areas at the same time. getting something bigger than small normally indeed is problematic as you rightfully saw that nearly no one moves but when a new area gets released than you will have a chance there aswell as people moving out of the old areas even if they allready got a medium or large house so that will be by far your best chance.

Is it a lost cause? No. Is it likely? Not any time soon. So heres the deal, you have a small house - congrats! - so that means you have 2 ways you can get a larger house. You can relocate your house if you see someone move, or you can hope to snag one when they add new wards. So lets look at both separately. Obviously, earn the money to upgrade and tour some of the larger lots just to get a feel for them. No point being on the fence about something when you get your shot.

People do move off of larger lots, and larger lots do sometimes get demo'd. This is less common then with small lots, but it does happen. Demo's happen at the top of the hour on the dot, though people can move at any time. So rather then incessantly checking the ward listings, check them periodically(but always at the top of the hour). In addition, there are plenty of house hunting discord type groups. They split up the task of checking for open lots, and share the news with members. Also a good source of encouragement when the hunt seems hopeless, and often decorating ideas and advice.

New wards do get added from time to time. There will for sure be a batch with 6.1(when ishgardian housing launches), and there may be some before then. New ward launches always concur with scheduled maintenance, and additionally said maintenance never ends early. On most(probably all if im being real) servers, the M and L lots will all be sold within the first 5-10 minutes of the servers coming back online. This is because there are a lot more people who have the cash to buy/upgrade then there are M/L lots to go around. The current ward layout is 21 smalls, 6 mediums, and 3 larges per division. We have no reason to think this is changing in the future. So if this is the path you wind up walking, then be ready next patch night where housing will be added. Log out at the entrance to the district you like most or the cities main aetheryte. Download the patch an hour or two before the servers come online. Log in right on time. Try to go quickly so you dont get stuck behind too many people in the que. Set yourself /busy, and quickly start cycling through the new wards to see if you made it in time. White prices of 8 digits are what you want to see. If the new wards in your city are sold out, decide(instantly) whether its worth it to check another city or if you think the new wards are toast. If youre too late, do a quick check of all the old wards. Someone could have moved off a plot you would consider an upgrade for one that they consider an upgrade. Generally speaking, within 30 mins(usually less) all the larger lots in all the wards in all the cities will have been noticed and relocated to if they opened up. It is possible that the 6.1 ishgard launch will take a little longer to sort out as it will involve a lot of new houses, but i wouldnt count on it if i was looking to upgrade. I would plan to be in a ward at 6:01 running to a placard with money in hand.

Depends on you. Some people love housing and spend billions setting one up. That said, progression and game play isn’t affected by having or not having a house.

It’s really up to you if you want to spend the time, effort, and Gil.

Speaking of housing, aren't FC houses kinda separate from L houses? Is it easier to get a FC house than a L?

FC houses themselves can be small, medium or large. It's easier to get a room in an FC house or an apartment than a house itself. FCs sometimes get to put their houses down first before people do when new wards are added.

Going to mirror what others have said.
When a new zone gets released (6.1?) a fair amount of people on mediums will relocate, you'll get first dibs on these for relocation since you already have a house. During that release, you could also just go to the new area and try getting a plot there but you will be competing with more people. Depending on how the lottery wards work it may be possible for you to relocate there before anyone else can purchase something as well.

The fact that you own a house already means that you now have better access to larger plots since the competition isn't as fierce. Just play the long game
