Looking for Monk Trainer

I am level 34 as a Pugilist and want to move into Monk, but I cannot find the starting quest in Ul'dah. I have checked the Lodestone guide and went to the location in the city, but the person is not there. I am working through the main story quest as well, and I am on a server that is giving me bonus EXP when I complete a mission. Is that the issue? Is it because I am higher in my job level than the main story questline?

Most importantly, where are you in the MSQ currently? You can't access jobs until you have joined a grand company (in the course of the MSQ) and reached/completed the quest "Sylph Management".

If you've done that, have you also completed the pugilist quest line?

I have joined a Grand Company and have completed the pugilist questline. I am getting ready to do the Sylph Management MSQ.

I could have it backwards, but i believe you need to have completed Sylph Management before the job quests become available.

I believe it’s this. Sylph management also unlocks retainers I think.
