I know this might be a shocker, but in this game they enforce the rules hard. So if you played other mmorpgs, and think you can act the same way..well you go to jail as you found out.

Even in this game.
I ran across a dude with a name referencing a phallus on their face. No idea what happened to him after the report, but it was.. slightly hilarious, but inappropriate.
The name is still in use, just on a lvl 9 lancer now. He must have rerolled.
thing is, names are only an issue if reported, simple as that, if its particularily clever, most people will likely roll their eyes, chuckle and move on. seriously, thats it. I rarely report a name unless its truly in your face offensive
if you read the other thread the OP started, it goes far FAR deeper than just a name. in fact if it was name alone, I would say it would have been only a 3 day ban. but in this case... the ugly goes right to the bone and 20 days should have likely been a perma ban
Just because no one wanted to talk to you specifically over the names you chose doesn't mean the choices are okay. It just means, in this case, that they didn't want to open themselves up to what may have been an even worse situation by trying to talk to you. Additionally considering you mentioned your retainers also had inappropriate names, no one knows who your retainer is unless maybe they see your actual retainer set up on a lawn of someone's house. But they can still report the retainer name to the GMs and since each retainer on a server has to have a unique name, it's not hard for them to track that back to you.I would have been happy to change the names to everything and receive a 3 day penalty at max. My point is 20 days, for a first time offense is extreme. I was never warned about my behavior, and didn't think "Cosby Klan". I was never jailed before this encounter, never told by other players to change the name, or asked by them because they were offended, just mass reported and given this penalty. I would have been happy to change my behavior and adapt. I was never told to. Instead I was penalized harshly
Now also consider this, how many people did your telegraphing of the kinds of things you've put out there impacted? If each person had one day of play experience impacted enough by what you put into the game to file a report that it got you suspended, if they wanted to make that even, I'd say you probably got off easy. Likely you impacted far more than 20 people to get reports on so many different things. So take your ban, think about what you did, learn to be better (or don't, I don't care... keep it up and just get banned if what what suits you) and move on.

If you really wanted a smooth clear you wouldn't be yelling at people. Everyone and their dog knows that yelling at people puts them on the defensive and is the single most counter productive tactic available. Honestly, grow up. Some things that were acceptable in WoW have no place here.
I have been trying for almost a full 24 in game hours to contact and get through to a GM or someone. I am on Aether-Adamantoise. This is my first offense, im a new player and have been confused and trying to contact someone all day. I don't even know what exactly I did except maybe yelling at people for not following raid mechanicshttps://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...ual-PunishmentBanned for 20 days for having inappropriately named retainers and an FC named "Cosby Klan". I pay to play this game. This is my first offense as a sprout. I was told there was nothing they could do because the 2 retainers and FC name change caused a pile up of reports and I couldn't be given a lighter punishment and that I wouldn't be given any kind of leniency. I don't want a slap on the wrist. Like. I just want a reasonable punishment for what I did wrong. Force me to change the names and 3-5 day ban. You are taking away 2/3 of my paid subscription for the month for a first offense name violation. The GM I spoke with was not helpful at all. Just repeating copy paste dialog rather than trying to actually talk with me and understand my point of view. Force closed the encounter when I was still trying to talk with them and figure out what I could do to prevent bans in the future. This is complete ass.
You knew exactly what you were doing when you used inappropriate names for your retainers and FC. Even the name of the character you are posting on is intended to be provocative. Trying to drum up sympathy when you know you are in the wrong is an ugly look.
Accept your punishment with grace.
As an aside, people who are punished for their misdeeds do not get to choose the severity of their punishment.
LOL - I can't believe the OP thought he'd get sympathy here in this forum - or any other FFXIV forum for that matter.
I can only think of a somewhat appropriate analogy: you plea bargain before a jury/judge finds you guilty in a court of law. Once the guilty verdict has been returned, your chances for a soft/lenient sentence has dropped significantly. Your only recourse then is an appeal. In addition to jail time, you end up with ruinous legal bills. Learn what the law is and obey it, it's better for you - that's a guarantee.![]()
Bro, until your attitude improves and you grow up, you will remain ban. Welcome to a game that holds your accountable for your dumb actions.
Glad to see the OP get called out for bad behavior. This thread starts out like a WOW forum thread but doesn’t go on for thousands of pages with nothing but attacks on those that find this person offensive.
I’m glad the GM’s enforce the rules, based on this players other posts and links to people who have had in punters with said player, I’m in agreement, ban the troll for life.
I kind of wish they would just permanently ban the person. We don't need toxic players like that in this community.
