    So I am new...

    Hiya!

I'm new to FFXIV, I started playing 3 days ago after my friends convinced me to try it and I've been absolutely loving the game so far! My main reason for making this forum post is to ask if anyone has any useful tips for me as a starter to the game?

    Many thanks!

You can find guides, UI and HUD guides, item databases and other useful information at https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/

You can find a Free Company at https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...munity_finder/

You can ask a mentor (experienced player with a crown icon) to invite you to the Novice Network, a chat where new players and returners ask questions, but it is full a lot at the moment because of an influx of new players that is far beyond what we normally get.

A big tip I give to many new players is changing your control type from Standard to Legacy.
This was when you try to go backwards you are jogging at a normal speed instead of slowly backpedaling.
Backpedaling will get you killed lol

I have been playing the game daily for well over a month and I'm still new. There is a lot to learn and imprint to the mind it's astonishing. I have not been rushing but am always finding stuff that I missed. This has the effect of me going back on myself. So there it is once more, take your time and absorb because when this game starts opening up it really does start opening up and you don't want to be going back on yourself when this happens as the story alone keeps pulling you forward.

The benefit of enabling Legacy Type and disabling auto-fly is that it makes doing mechanics a lot easier. Instead of turning your camera around and moving out of something, you can just press backwards and your character will immediately flip around and run out of it. It's a lot faster.

Mechanics register the moment the cast completes, not when the animation happens. So if the cast bar under the enemy finishes, that's when it checks if you are in the way of an attack. The animation usually completes after the cast has finished so don't rely on the animation. You can actually walk back into the way of an attack after a cast complete and it will look like it's hitting you but it doesn't. There are rare exceptions but you will discover those quickly.

You can disable the effects of others in character configuration. I set mine to Show All, party to Show Limited and others to Show None. That prevents bosses from getting covered in spell effects but still let's you see important things, like healing bubbles.

You have a Sprint button. It's very useful for moving faster and helps with getting through dungeons faster too.

Book time of work for when you get to Heavensward. I have hardly moved out of my chair since I got there. The story goes up by several thousand notches and I am having trouble taking a break for food and stuff. It's really gripping stuff that you can't put down.
