    Streaming

A thing thats been bugging me as of late with how many more people have started playing ff14 that are streaming. It annoys me and probably annoys the streamer that theyre just surrounded by literally everyone just to be on their stream and say "oh hey were friends! oh were in his/hers world!" Like thats really not the case. They literally cant get anything done because theres just people everywhere. I think square needs to look into some kind of system so streamers can stream in some kind of privacy where theyre just not bombarded with everyone. Its just so cringe.

If you stream you know you will end up with some people following you, the bigger you are the more you will get. It can be a fun thing to do with your chat most of the time. And sometimes like with Asmon people are just out to ruin your day. But there is always the option to not stream when you play the game. They don't need to do anything more than ban people for harassment imo.

Streamers are, or should be aware of what they're getting themselves into if they decide to divulge character information to the public when playing. SE should not have to cater to anyone, on any level. My understanding is that people have been reported for the disruption of gameplay, notably, in regards to the person in post two. Streamers have the option of using an obscure name to play, and only stream on known names. This is their choice.

so... streamers should be treated special and have no responsibility is what you are saying?

they do NOT have to show what world they are playing on for one. problem solved.... if someone is harassing, they can be reported. personally, as a rule, I dont think they are any more special than anyone else and SE should not be making them "special" systems for things they can prevent themselves.

While I agree, that if streamers wanted privacy while playing they wouldn't stream. Streamers are free advertising for games. They serve the purpose of showing off game play and that is a good thing. I use to think why do they get special treatment, then I realized there are a few good streamers out there. Most of the rest are frankly boring. I like Asmongolds style and believe me I am old. But he's not afraid to say the hard things about a game and I like that. So keep in mind they are getting the word out about fun games to the masses. This is a good thing, you can always tell the ones who are bias as opposed to the ones who are genuine in their anlysis of any game.

I wanted to edit to say people are people, the ones who follow streamers or just want to be a part of the crowd are pretty benign. The ones there to disrupt deserve to be reported. It's no different than harassing anyone else in game weather they are streaming or not. If people would stop harassing they wouldn't be reported.

It's tough. For the streamers themselves, they cultivate community and a following. Even if they "don't want to" they still have to to some degree as part of their job. There's little doubt it does at least shade their experience of the game, though, as they get access to all of the help they want/need, instant cues for everything regardless of what role(s) they play, guided walkthroughs of pretty much all content, even if it's some of the hardest in the game, etc. (And no, big name streamers doing Ex or Savage content with a team of 6 people who have already done the content doesn't really count as them "blind progging" it as some have suggested elsewhere). I can imagine that some of the streamers would rather experience the game as a nameless face but to do so would basically require they don't stream their experience at all. There's really nothing SE can do to hide their identities as even if they never show their character name on screen or stream with a delay or something it's easy enough to figure out where anyone is by location and appearance alone.

For the "fans" though? Yeah, I will absolutely agree it's pretty "cringe" and pretty embarrassing. It's one thing to welcome a streamer to a new area of the game like if they are entering Ishgard for the first time. It's another to literally follow them around and be there standing at every single quest giver and dungeon entrance. Or to "follow along" and create a new character to "replay the story" exactly as the streamer is.

Of course, those who follow any streamer around and actively try to harass them or negatively impact their experience should be banned, period. That is completely separate from the obnoxious fans or embarrassing hanger-ons. Not only are you breaking ToS but, even if you weren't, you're just making the game and the community look bad. I don't care if you don't like the streamer in question but trying to harass them or drive them away somehow just makes you a.. jerk.

Simple, they turn their stream off and play. They know this shit is part of being a streamer, it happens everywhere.. and why? Because viewers want to interact with the streamer. They want to be seen by them, responded to by them. It's part of what they sign up for. Yes, it can go overboard like what happened with Asmon, and Square took care of people trying to sabotage Asmon's playing the game. No they're not going to get some kind of 'privacy mode' that let's them play alone. They can turn off their stream and play in relative normalcy when that is what they desire.

The funny thing is that this use to not be a thing when streaming mmos like about 10 years ago. Back then if you streamed a mmo you basically were just doing it for a small group of friends or maybe showing off something and ff14 was no different. It's only in the last 3 or so years that streaming mmos became a issue for the streamer.

    I mean just compare this:
    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/44912413 (FF14 - 9 years ago)

    and this:
    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/132195945 (WoW - 4 years ago)

To what you see today, it's like night and day. I'm not sure what sparked this explosion in watching mmo streams or why people started to go to them ingame but because this is happening and doesn't seem to be going away. I think the only sure fire way to aid streamers is to just dedicate a server for streaming that way the streamer can still play but access to them can and should be restricted.... Or so that's what I believe to be the best solution imo. Either way yeah, it's sad to see the swarming that occurs when streaming now a days.

I think part of the issue with streamers being mobbed is many times streamers (who are advertising) a game get attention from a game employee maybe have them as a guest on their stream( free exposure for the game and new players means$$ for said game) so the streamer fans see them as a influence for the game they play. Because is recent years in western games devs don't pay attention to their players anymore. There is no communication with them on a regular basis. So the streamer is almost a go between gamer rep.
