Like... have you ever been fishing in real life? I don't think any activity in existence could beat "sitting by the water for 8 hours straight waiting for a stick to wiggle" in terms of total time disrespected, barring maybe watching paint drying.

Absolutely hahahah! Been out fishing many times, with many hours spent (enjoyably, of course). But sheesh, if I were looking for one particular rare fish, then A) I'd never participate at all because I can't just zip off to the Aegean Sea, and B) The number of hours left in my life wouldn't be enough to scour the ocean in search of not just one rare species of fish, but a singular, unique rare fish.

All of this leads to fishing feeling like a total rng game compared to the other gatherers and makes me not want to touch it until it's fixed. Fishing wastes player's time and needs a total rework.

Have you ever spent time in the Real World fishing? With the exception of fish farms, where one can drop a hook with corn on the end of it and pull up a rainbow trout within seconds (yeah, they exist ... yeah, my dad 'caught' a bunch of them one family vacation years ago), fishing is a past time that appears to be entirely random to those who don't know, and only somewhat less random to those who do know.

when people popularize the term 'respect player's time' in WOW (you mentioned WOW first not me), it refers to a whole system upon system of abuse.

- temporary character upgrade that would expire in next patch (not next expansion, next patch, by expire it covers not only general iLVL increase but all the system added)

- time gated reward

- not only reward based on grinding, but the amount of grinding to get a reward is reduced in future patch

- and much more

And you (intentional or otherwise) reduce all these abuse by WOW dev by using the term "respect player's time" on "RNG in fishing" in FF14?

Can you be more honest? If you want to talk about fishing in FF14 fine, just talk about it, don't make shady comparisons that is simply dishonest!

It also takes about an hour to prepare the average meal from scratch, though conveniences are made due to the fact that it is, in fact, a game.

I've been on fishing trips in the real world. You can get lucky some days and come back with nothing on other days. It requires a lot of patience and luck.

Personally I don't think there's much wrong with lessening some of the lofty requirements for certain big fish, since it's fully possible for someone with less time to play the game to consistently miss the windows for months if not years and still not catch one even if they do manage to catch one of the rarer fishing windows.

Respecting the players time refers to being able to enjoy the game without it becoming a job. That does not mean you'll get 100% completion without the game becoming a job.

Fishing is an excellent optional bottomless pit, especially when you consider how much easier it was made to level via ocean fishing.

What are some ideas you would implement to make fishing more enjoyable?

I've been fishing for years in this game, and i consider myself one of the more lazy of fisherfolk; and it is DEFFINITLY a time commitment.

I won't speak on behalf of time itself; as it's going to be obviously different for everyone, but I will say I have a list of things that I personally would love to see.

And it's a long list, so here's just a few things off that list.



1. Tacklebox independent from the inventory itself.
- I'm not certain why we still don't have one.

2. Revert back to old vendor gil value for Fish.
- This is probably very complicated as anything that affects the games economy in anyway can break something, but fish back in the day used to be worth more when they are sold to vendors.

3. Customizable Fishing Chairs and Props.
- Not a important feature request.

Mostly because it is not needed. You do not need to have a full complement of every type of bait available in the game available to you at all times.
