I actually like au ra as they are, I just need the miqo'te hempen top, and for SE to add more glamour pieces I like. I don't see why they would need to touch elezen either, they are fine as they are, or rather, we are beyond a "correction" at this point in the game's lifespan. If anything I would rather just see them add a half elezen playable race, like Hilda. Anyway, I mean, I wouldn't be an ardent supporter of this request or anything, I'd just leave a post saying like: "yeah, sure whatever" at that point, if it was possible.

I tend to think it's better to just try and fit the form first, then take the rest of your preferences on board (as in frills or no-frills).

Catboys can be a bit tricky to dress in some outfits because of their height and girth. A lot of what might be consider skewed masculine (i.e., lots of tank gear) can bulk them out in an unappealing manner. Robes and long-coat styles can also drown them.

I'm sure you have quite different criteria as to what looks good, but let me share what I do for my catboys (my main alt is a catboy, I have another two catboy alts and my squadron for my main is half catboy), as a note-comparing exercise:

My catboys use the fireglass leather hoodie (without the t-shirt), or the summer indigo shirt - both may be either gender, but they look awesome on catboys. Use the peacelover's trousers, or calf riders plus the trainers (high tops or calf rider) or rebel boots. It looks good, even if you might find the fact either gender can wear this problematic - my personal preference is to use gunmetal black on the trousers and fireglass hoodie, jet black on the shirt, trainers and boots. I also like the Strife trousers - the length is especially good across the board (and really, catboys look best with length to combat their short height, although this claim is not something I'd die on a hill to defend, because I've found enough ways around it).

If you're tanking, goatskin trews in gunmetal black lower the waistline in a pleasing manner; that plus the fireglass hoodie (no t-shirt version) will show nice arms and some stomach/abs. You might also look at the endless summer attire on the mog station - it's open-shirted for the guys.

Then you might also consider the coeurl talisman/south seas talisman (both are male only). I have my catboy's monk job dressed in the south seas & fireglass trews (though peacelover's work too), and it's appealing with punching gloves as well.

If you want a shirt that's smart, take a look at the Thavnairian wool autumn shirt. It's default colour is questionable, but it's male only. The only issues I can see arising may be the excessive buttons and/or swirly pattern on the cuffs, and being honest, I have this but don't use it. It's not rock and roll enough.

Failing that, the emperor's new robe chest piece might do you well. My husband uses this on his catboy, with the default starter boots and the pagos gaskins (I feel those gaskins skew quite masculine, but YMMV). I think he uses this on all jobs.

I don't know if any of these suggestions will work for you in the short-term at least, but know I am sympathetic to the plight of wanting specific stuff to wear and not finding it - regardless of gender! And if you ever want to visit my corner of Zodiark in November to try and deal with this game's take on fashion, I'd happily welcome you over.

Ty for the thought out response! Unfortunately i’m really not a fan of the modern glams. I’ve always been a fan of the medieval type of aspect ff has had, even with some of the futuristic stuff like allagans and garleans. But i’ve always felt it should stick to its roots with the older themed glams. I kind of greatly dislike things like the hoodies and the baseball cap etc just because it feels so out of place and i’m a nerd who likes to feel immersed . I’m not expecting really to get many manly glams or masculine ones in endwalker as i’ve kind of just accepted the way things are. Just thought to put my thoughts out on this and this topic as a whole.

The Voeburtite/Heirloom tunics of casting and healing come to mind when I think of feminine Disciple of Magic gear. It's practically a mini dress design-wise, and while some people might like that (myself included), I can imagine most dudes would glam that off in a heartbeat.

What casters and healers need are more outfits like Exdeath's and Golbez's heavy armor, or Seymour's robes with the open chest and tattoos.

God this would be so nice. Thank you these are actually perfect examples lol. More gear like that in general would be nice. More cloaks and capes as opposed to flowy robes with frills and dresses/stockings. It’s so surprising to me that they have inspiration like that to go off of and they do nothing with it and instead just give us more of the same. Idk if their design team has just lost their spark or what.

I am all for this! We have a surplus of feminine casting and healing glams. It won't kill us to get something a bit more rugged.

Honestly, none of this would be an issue if the devs weren't afraid to give casters and healers more than black and white robes. If every other class can bounce between intimidating and shiny armor, tight and rugged leathers, and fancy cloth armors of varying lengths, then why can't disciples of magic?

Now as for this whole gender lock thing, I'm fine with the glams that are obtainable in-game being locked, and if the lock gets removed somewhere down the line then that's just a little bonus for me. If it doesn't, well that's no skin off my rump.

What does chafe me are character glams on the Mogstation being locked unless someone gets a brain worm and decides "Oh hey, Alphinaud's outfit looks good on the ladies too", or "Aymeric's hairstyle is unisex, but his armour ain't lmao" while Lightning and Snow, or Thancred and Y'shtola's hairstyles are decidedly not unisex. Stuff like that does grind my gears a bit.

For me it would be headsets that maybe show more muscle or accentuates the chest/abs area of the males. Things of that nature. Like, for some of the frilly or ribbon-y healer outfits, they could easily just turn them into tunics. There’s a big difference between something like the hellfire set and the 2b set is what i mean. The hellfire set has that chest window which is semi-revealing but the overall glamour is pretty masculine. Things of that nature.
I would love to see more tunic type glams similar to the Eikon Acton model. There are very few items like this in the game. I like pieces that drape down a bit below the waist and above the knee. Bits of armor on a robe is cool too, which unfortunately we don't seem to get very often either. The bit of concept art below is one of my favorite looking pieces of caster gear I've seen. It looks masculine to me and functional.

Healers especially suffer with glam pieces that really seem tailored more to females. It feels like the majority of healer chestpieces are full robes with a wide or bottom-heavy silhouettes. I like robes. I like men in robes. FF mostly doesn't do men in robes well imo. A robe on a man should ideally accentuate the shoulders and chest and then taper down to something straight. This would be an example of a more masculine full robe to me.

The Valerian wizard and priest robes are among the best robes in XIV on male characters and it figures because they were designed from a different game ;p

The same applies. Throwing those terms out just because people disagree with you isn't going persuade anyone to your side.
