????I'm fine with the gender lock not being a priority to remove if it means more focus on traditionally masculine gear for male characters and traditionally feminine gear for female characters. It's what the majority of people seem to want, after all - and I'd rather not see the game's fashion trends dictated purely by whoever happens to be the the loudest, most vocal voice within the community.
Why would we lose out on masculine and feminine gear?
To me removing the lock just means a guy can use the thavnarian outfit and a girl can run around in big, spiky pauldrons. If they want to.
As I said in this post:
Niche pursuits do not come without a cost.Resources are finite and the moment gender locks were removed on hairstyles we began getting an increase in the amount of androgynous/feminine hairstyles that are considered too long by many people playing male characters and too short by many people playing female characters.
If they can be unlocked over time when the development team have room to breathe, fine - but I'd rather not miss out on cool looking male attire because the latest dress thrown up on the Mog Station 'needs' to account for the very tiny portion of the player base who wish to clad their character in it.
As it stands, there's also many more players playing female characters who wish to dress up in male attire compared to the number of people playing male characters who wish to dress up in female attire.
