When i get a pair of pants, i want them to be a pair of pants and not a skirt!
Resources are finite and the moment gender locks were removed on hairstyles we began getting an increase in the amount of androgynous/feminine hairstyles that are considered too long by many people playing male characters and too short by many people playing female characters.

If they can be unlocked over time when the development team have room to breathe, fine - but I'd rather not miss out on cool looking male attire because the latest dress thrown up on the Mog Station 'needs' to account for the very tiny portion of the player base who wish to clad their character in it.

As it stands, there's also many more players playing female characters who wish to dress up in male attire compared to the number of people playing male characters who wish to dress up in female attire.

The maid outfit also has a male specific model in the files despite being still genderlocker. Where is it SE...

Also for your second picture, it's not actually a female model, there is no boobs, the "game" can scale the model to fit the race but not alter the model to fit the gender.

Resources are so finite that they go out of their way to make different looking outfits for the different genders, often times with major differences...

Once they have finished the model it really shouldn't me anything more than to click on a few buttons, and load up the model on the different race/sex combinations to see if there is anything out of line.

They do as much because such an approach serves to appease the greater number of players. I think that most people playing a male character do not wish to wear a dress designed with a female character in mind, after all.
