I don't think so, role-specific gear does the work of distinguishing players according to their jobs at the time of playing, I would certainly not want to see several Samurais and Dragoons in the party using the same glamour as the Tank, classes and jobs would loose meaning.

My healer glam wears the striking set reskin, and no one has any trouble seeing that I'm an AST. Several dungeons offer reskins to new roles. We can wear frog suits. The only reason it's locked is so that SE can re-release it later as crafted sets instead of making new gear.

Now THAT is my tinfoil hat theory and prove me wrong.

This kind of loses its distinction when you have sets like, say a lot of the Nier raid sets, the shisui sets, etc. I can agree when it comes to job specific gear that actually defines those jobs. But there's plenty of say tank gear that isn't actually defensive looking, plenty of aiming gear that doesn't exactly scream bard/mch/dnc, plenty of casual wear glams that aren't combat oriented at all etc. In fact, other than tank sets generally having a bit of extra armor, the sets generally aren't really role defining in their aesthetics outside of actual AF sets once per expansion.

And considering you can go back and get older gear from prior expansions much easier than it was to get at the start, it doesn't really define you as having played 'at that time' either. Heck I didn't do MM until several patches after it released and yet I can rock my dyed af sets just as easily as those that did it day one.

Funny, considering things like level 1 glamours exist. I really don’t understand this argument when i can be a level 80 drk and be wearing boxer briefs and a pig head. Job distinction went out the window a long time ago.

I think the point is, people were advocating for it very much back then. Look where it got us. Into an even worse situation than there was back then. It seems like a majority of the community only really cares about female things. When it’s male characters asking for something or more specifically masculine things , “it eats up resources”, or “stop being homophobic or misogynistic.” There’s multiple threads of people asking for things for male characters and then we get this expansion filled with things like the 2b coffer, almost every healer set, androgynous and feminine hair etc. With still hardly little word on something so simple as a stubble. And now male viera are made immensely feminine with really no variance on their height slider or a masculine face option similar to what the miqote’s have. Instead it’s they MUST be shorter than the females and like it!

Which is why I said what I said about keeping the thread 'alive and active', just because it didn't work in 2018 doesn't mean it's a lost cause. Sure, I've seen the odd thread here and there asking for what you're saying here but they quickly drop off and disappear from the first page, while the majority of these comments are scattered about other threads asking for different things.

I don't know exactly what sort of feedback is passed on the dev team but I can almost guarantee they don't go through each thread tallying Yea's and Nay's and writing notes on things people ask for unrelated to the topic.

I get that it's annoying having to shout for something that should go without saying but revive that 2018 thread and keep it active and be 'annoying' about keeping it on the first few pages.

Worst case scenario you've wasted some time posting in a thread every now and then.

Sure, I've seen the odd thread here and there asking for what you're saying here but they quickly drop off and disappear from the first page, while the majority of these comments are scattered about other threads asking for different things.

This is my point regarding this thread though. It *is* going to be a lost cause if we continue to have people wanting the devs to waste resources on very niche things. And then use the homophobia transphobia card to try to get the devs to notice them to avoid being cancelled. Again, i don’t find that it’s a coincidence the same expansion they’ve put more focus onto removing past genderlocks is the same expansion we’ve gotten less masculine glams and options, and also the same expansion period male viera got twitter-fied. It has to do with this toxic generation(of which i am a part of so don’t cancel me plz thx)

This exactly. A big problem on this forum is that people simultaneously believe that the devs don't listen to the forums, but also every suggestion thread is going to happen unless they spam it with their grievances at the very suggestion of whatever is in the OP. The irony is that it adds post count, thus giving the CMs the idea that maybe they should look at the suggestion being made. Engagement makes the digital world go round, people! Which is why I still have severe doubts about these Twitter overlords I keep hearing about.

On topic: I've said it before but I'll go further into my own thoughts now. I've been playing a lot of other games in the past few years, and become accustomed to devs committing to making gear for all. They want to make a strappy lil thing or a big spikey plate of armor? They made their bed and pushed it out for all models and classes. I put the ranged outfit on my tank and mix it with some caster pieces.

This lock behind class and role, and by extension gender, is pretty stifling. Not just because it is more work (and trust me, it really is more work.) The trade-off is more aesthetics but less options for the individual. Gender/race locking isn't a bad thing when you can have alts. The harsh truth of FFXIV is that alts are a novelty, and not exactly viable in a game like this. Racial gear in GW2 is awesome because I, the player, can enjoy all of these aesthetics without losing anything. I just hop onto an alt!

FFXIV? Do hundreds of hours of MSQ, lose access to my house, gil, and all of my progress OR that will be a $10 fantasia, please. If you design a game around how one character can do all things, then I don't see how that philosophy cannot extend to aesthetics as well.

Crossdressing is only an issue for 1%-2% of the population.
The reason female Hrothgar isn't coming out at the same time as male viera is because of how much time it takes to model gear in this game. Making them work twice as hard to make female clothes for males and male clothes for females doubles the time and resources needed for this.

Instead of crossdressing I think more hairstyles, more glamours, and hats/helmets for viera/hrothgar are more pressing problems in the game.

Right and I get that, but by repeatedly going back and forth with people arguing over what you'd rather see, all you're really doing is driving engagement and post count up in this topic you don't agree with.

You can post that you disagree of course, but it seems that energy is better spent making sure what you DO want to see is spotlighted in its own thread and driving engagement there.
