so lalafell should be allowed to wear any clothes because their models are literally the same right? Not really. The easiest job is similar to champions in LoL : one model, clothing integrated as a direct shape of the character. As soon as you do clothes, since you have two genders, you have two basic bodyshapes, it far easier and faster to extract one clothing from each and develop it specifically rather than doing one for both and copy one to another. Just the copy can generate ghost clipping. This because of topology and shape keys (especially since you need to delete as many hidden part as possible to avoid clipping and useless GPU work).
The more HD is topology, the farest topologies are between genders (hips and breast for example).
yes, actually, but they won't do that because it's either all or nothing.
another issue is that male characters have midlander ( au ra, miqote, highlander, elezen ) and roe based races ( hrothgar ), while all female characters use the same base model so porting a female outfit would require double the work than the other way around.
the exception is lalafell but they're identical in body

La normalité n'est que la moyenne de nos folies individuelles.
Normality is just an average. I'm the weird, you're the bizarre.
uhh what? They still have to work around body types. They have to work around the chest of females. They’d have to spend more time trying to customize it so it not only fits both genders the same, but all the different races as well. That’s much more work. Unless you have actual coding or designing experience, i’m gonna take it with a huge grain of salt because a lot of you seem to be thinking it isn’t a lot of work when the devs themselves have stated it’s more.
I don't mind genderlocked items—I do mind when the outfits are restricted by job/class.EDIT: Disappointed, but not surprised at the level of homophobia/transphobia, hate and apathy directed towards gender non-conforming people wanting to be able to have options in this game. A sad world.

I honestly thought we'd start to see more progress the day the both wedding attires were unlocked. Yet here we are, still getting fed cash-shop gender exclusive gear. Even with regular ingame items. Why?
What I find hilarious is that the game purportedly already has female sets like the spring dress, and thavnarian outfit modelled and fitted for all male characters. This has been the case for more than a year now, and yet they're still locked in the actual game lol.
Here are some images I found on the topic over on discord:
What's more shocking and very confusing is that apparently, every single male exclusive designed item is always fitted and wearable for every female race. But the reverse is not true, as the data just doesn't exist at all.
I remember back when people used to defend the genderlocking by bringing up countries such as UAE and the conservative nature of japan. But since everyone can run around in 2B's outfit, there really aren't anymore excuses as to why they're still at this.
Yoshi P, please-
Are people really arguing about how clothing irl is cut in mass production to.. video game models that are custom fit?
I'm sorry to say that all clothing you buy doesn't fit you correctly, unless you have it altered. But what I'm gathering is this thread is full of poorly dressed individuals.
Bumping for the previous post: release job/role locked glamour. Gender locked glamour is small potatoes compared to this stifling system that should have died in MMOs years ago.
2B themed glams drop from copied factory though, just like 9s themed ones do. Yet they still gave the 2b coffer. It’s just funny to me though that Yoshi P wants to go on about “equality” for brownie points with the community, yet when push comes to shove we get a female themed glam and not a male alternative for people that play male characters...where’s the equality?People cosplayed 2b long before her outfit became available and it was about the same effort as trying to create 9s. It just seems like again, they wanted to pander to the skimpy female characters like always and male characters got shafted like always.
Edit:
In fairness, a lot of the gear that drops from the Nier raid does fill that.
The 2B gear is more like a fun reference and 2B's design is ultimately more popular than say 9S.
It'd be cool to have gotten both but they also designed all of the other gear too, so I am more forgiving of it.
I mean in that scenario the 9S gear would've been what was to appease a minority, and some of the gear already is very similar from the Nier raids. It's pretty easy to cosplay him already while cosplaying 2B would've been more difficult.
The 2B set being unisex was on Yoko Taro. I am not really familiar with his games, but from how he's acted in every interview with the xiv staff I assume he fought for it cause he thought it'd be funny and zany random humor seems to be his thing.
So then if this is indeed true(we’ll never get an answer obviously), then he thinks the same way as a lot of the people in this thread who also think 99% of the time a guy dresses up in something heavily feminine like the 2b outfit, it’s for humor purposes.(which i kind of agree with too, i usually only see it used as humor.) Nevertheless though if it indeed was his decision, then the original plan would’ve been to have had it be a female glam only, in which case...yay for shafting the males as i’ve said before. It just seems really lazy on SE’s part to take off the genderlock of one piece of glam but then leave it on for another that’s part of the same exact raid and which they already have the model in the game for. Then again laziness seems to be the theme this expansion so![]()
This thread is funny with OP pics are files in game they are just waiting for right time to release them same as The Butler and Maid set for both genders, already stated they want to slowly remove gender locked clothing over time just wait.
people against men in dresses just gotta cope since they already can wear stuff like spring dress and wedding dress,
also Japan isn't really against cross dressing obviously people are gonna find it odd but where doesn't but its generally "humorous" to see a man in women clothing it aint tabboo to them lol.
personally i don't care what you wear, its not like game is super graphic anyway.
