Whereas masculine clothing is much more rare in comparison. We have to acknowledge that it would take immense resources to go to every piece of gear and ungenderlock it so to speak. I think before we even start thinking about that, we need to start seeing some changes and more equality with the sets we're getting now. Because typically gender neutral or ungenderlocked things or male outfits typically look much better on female characters than female outfits look on male characters. So id rather some time be put towards giving us some masculine or male themed gear as opposed to continuing the bias of feminine gear. Then once thats settled i dont really have a problem with ungenerlocked gear so long as we are getting a balance of everything. Problem is again, that takes a lot of resources, which the devs apparently cant even do the bare minimum and make all gear dyable.
They have a lot of masculine sets, just as many as they have feminine sets, in fact masculine sets are way easy to get, as they are usually "all class" sets for glam, and can be either earned with in game currency or crafted. Where as Feminine sets are either class locked or store purchased. The best looking dress in the game is level 80 Caster Locked (type 51 caster)which is great if I was a Caster Main on my actual main. But I play Ranged/Melee on my actual main character. And most of the outfits sets are overly masculine.

Edit: Adding the image of the type 51 caster set, best looking dress for females, and rather cool looking lab coat for males. I dislike that it's a gender flip set, and females can't wear the labcoat, and males can't wear the awesome dress.

and if you don't believe me that most of the ranged sets are masculine, look at this list: Eorzea collection ranged sets on female models

Bigger list, all melee and ranged sets on female model sorted by Ilevel

Except the sets that flip artwork for females, all of these sets are very masculine.

I bring up my sexuality because typically people try to bring up homophobia for other people not consorting to their beliefs. In some ways it can help to give that piece of information as typically these types of conversations are geared toward specific types of people.

Hard disagree on there being just as many masculine sets as feminine. Thats just factually untrue. In the end though tastes are subjective, so what you see as the best dress may be the worst one for others. One prime example is look at all the healer sets in the game. Even the caster ones as theyre typically just darker colored versions of the healer sets. Typically extremely feminine.

Outside of the first couple of rows, the rest are literally extremely feminine. Hell, this expansion they literally gave the male tomestone gear a female outfit. They literally just copy and pasted rydia's dress and barely made any alterations to it and said here guys, enjoy. When multiple people say we need more masculine gear im inclined to agree with it lol.

To be fair, we're arguing mostly role based glams now. Healing gear is and will always (sadly) be extremely feminine. Just like how tanking gear will always be very masculine. This is how SE envisions the roles and I don't see that changing.

What we can ask for is cosmetics to alleviate this, which is the thread topic.

You're going to have to be specific, besides 2 white mage sets, none of the caster clothing looks feminine to me on a male character, yes a lot of robes, but men have been wearing robes historically a lot longer than women ever have. The most feminine look not a white mage look is one Black Mage set which is fugly as all hell, and that one is not a gendered look just a fugly one.

Oh and the one Healer set with the Helm of fugly mouths from level 50 tower.

And edit: Nothing femm about the Eden's sets, one is a Early Renaissance men's coat and pants with a goofy hat (Eden's Verse), and the other is a Battle Mage look with a long coat (Eden's Gate), the healer set on Edens gate is Roman inspired, although I listed it as girly on my count, it's actually based on historical western men's clothing.

I was meaning, look at everything, and point out what is or is not girly.

Here I went through every caster look on a male, and rated them as I saw them.

    Male caster sets counting: 1-80

What I rate the look as- Number of sets-Blurb
Dude in battle mage robe - 14 (Includes armor bits)
Dude in Long Coat - 10 (neck to feet covered)
Pants and short coat - 7 (coat and pants visible)
Historical Pants and jacket -28 (Medieval fantasy, Renaissance Fantasy, and Age of Enlightenment fantasy ie Red Mage and historical European mens fashion)
Steam Punk Pants and Shirt - 3 (Goggles, just what we all want right?)
Steam Punk Pants and Jacket - 9 (Same as above but with a long coat)
Tribal - 15 (looks based on Mongolian Hordes and Tribal peoples)
Dude in Spoky Robe - 3 (Works for the Goth in your life)
Man Witch - 37 (See that pointy hat, he's a Witch Harry)
College Dude - 13 (What a medieval College student would wear at a magical school)
Girly Robe - 9 (You want to look like a girl)
Girly Short Dress - 2 (Steampunk Short Dress, looks cute AF IMO)
Fugly Mage - 23 (No idea who designed these but they have bad aesthetics)
Dwarf - 2 (Beards for all)
Australian Explorer - 1 (Just a funny look)
Cockney Explorer - 1 (and the side kick)
Imperial Russian Army Wizard and medic (1815-1915) - 16 (I read a Fantasy Series once which was based on this idea, these looks would fit.)
Call of Duty Modern - 4 (These looks would be better on a machinist)
Catholic Priest - 7 (I could make a lot of jokes, but I wont)
Chinese/Japanese - 12 (Well they are Japanese, but these looks are a bit on the nose if you ask me)
Sci-Fi Armor - 17 (Mass Effect meet Final Fantasy)
Actually a Black Smith - 2 (Make your caster look like a Black Smith, or Armor Smith)
Greek dude - 6 (Make puns about Zeus, eat grapes and drink wine)
Homeless Witch (SB BLM Set)- 1 (Worst set in the game, needs it's own category)
Male Stripper - 3 (yeah they went there, 3 times)
2nd ed D&D Mage - 3 (Literally dressed like the cover art for a few old TSR books)
Circus - 6 (Clowns, Jesters, and a ringmaster)
Part time Furry - 6 (Want more animal parts than people parts, then I have a look for you)
Sci-Fi greek Russian - 2 (not sure what they were going with, but it's a cool look on the guys)
old boring hooded robe- 5 (Ye wanted to look liketh urianger yn the wakyng sands)

This bothered me greatly. The dress is amazing. Everything about it is just so right. Meanwhile the men look so stuffy and over-burdened. Both are cool though, just wish I had the dang dress.

I don't considering myself bi or gay in an absolute sense, but I do enjoy feeling feminine. Better yet, I enjoy being whatever gender I want to be from a male-originating perspective. I want androgyny dangit. That means I want male and female clothes on my character.

    Square, stop genderizing gear.
