The Dead Horse: Tomes Weekly Cap Gear

So this is a video by Arthars made five days ago, recommended by the glorious Youtube algorithm. Got curious. Watched it, mostly felt indifferent to a lot of things, right up to this old tired debacle around 6min-ish mark regarding the 450 weekly cap and gear and job role discussion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KoV...el=ArtharsFF14

I didn't know the original amount of tomestones you could carry at 2.0 was 300 and then was raised up to 450 only 3 weeks later. I know on these forums, we've beaten this horse to death over and over but the man does raise an interesting point here: 9 jobs at 2.0, now we're at 19 and we're still at 450 cap. If gear...virtually doesn't matter, does it actually warrant a change? Up to how much? And conversely, since it doesn't matter, then is there a point to increasing it?

I know that it's been discussed that, if you're heading into savage, gear matters even less but that won't stop people from gearing up regardless, just to make the average FFXIV life easier at the least. Crafted gear for raiding exist, somewhat affordable if you've been playing the game a long time. Nonetheless, is this something SE should revisit in the same fashion they did back in 2.0?

EDIT: as some posters pointed out-and it's also something that completely slipped my mind when writing this-gear is shared amongst jobs/roles so keep that in mind.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I think this ilvl 590 gear we get from the vendor is kinda like a luxury item so we can do content easier, but the ilvl 580 gear especially the one from crafting is already enough to finish all savage content in the tier, and this luxury is specifically for person like me that doesnt want to do current savage or even extreme but still want to get a progression, if the raider get their gear from doing tough content like savage and extreme, we the casual can also get that but timegated which is fine by me, i mean my 2 main class already fully ilvl 580 from normal pandemonium and crafting, and for me to get ilvl 590 every 1 or 2 week from casual duty roullete is perfectly fine for me since i probably wont do savage anyway, and the reason that we only still capped to 450 because it means to focus on 1 class first to be fully ilvl 590 geared, it doesnt matter how much class exist out there

When you could farm 900 a week, did you unfailingly do that? Whatever the larger cap is, fail to do it once, and you fall behind.

It shouldn't increased in size. Most people don't want to spend most of their time farming tomestones.

Similarly, people flooded out of WOW because systems like farming anima and artifact power for 90% of your daily gametime was horrible.

I still feel the hole tomestone cap should accumulative instead of a fixed cap per week.
Basically the moment you hit 90 you can earn 450 tomestones. The following reset week your total cap is increased to 900 (while still keeping track of how many tomes you farmed.)
Let's say you farmed 370 tomes so in your 2nd week the tomestone counter would show: 370/900
This week you get busy with real life stuff and can't play so in your 3rd week the counter would show: 370/1350.

This way SE is still in full control of how quickly players can progress though the content and players had more room to freely choose when do spend roulettes on tomestones or how to take breaks.
I know you only need 5 expert roulettes to reach your cap which doesn't take a lot of time per week but Real Life happens and this way you don't miss out if responsibilities come knocking.

Even though there's more classes, the same number of gear sets are still available since similar roles share gear. You could argue that there are now more weapons, however they actually dropped the price of weapons from 1000 tomes to 500 in Endwalker.

Also, in ARR there were less sources of gear since there was no normal mode for raids and you couldn't upgrade crafted gear (which will likely return in 6.1).

What if they increased how many tomestones you got from things like expert roulette? Or instead of changing tomestone counts, they just made the items cheaper?

I think it should be limited to 450.
But it should be limited per role, not per character.
If someone wants to gear up and play both his healers, his tanks, his ranged, his melee and his casters, it should be possible to do so.
(This doesn't resolve the issue of melee having 3 different sets, which is still kinda weird to me...or the fact that one of the melees uses DEX...)

That would be literal hell. I play Paladin, Red Mage, Reaper, White Mage, Sage, and Bard actively. I always cap by Wednesday due to having treasure map parties with friends and then I just do whatever I feel like doing for the rest of the week (Fate farming for mount/making gil by running dungeons for desynth/ect)

By saying 'I think it should be limited to 450, but making it per role' really isn't limiting it to 450/week, at all. It also changes the currency by making it 'per role' giving up more currencies.

What about when it's no longer the current tome and it gets downgraded to the 'unlimited until the next tome' currency?

I don't think capping 900 is an issue, you can already easily cap with 2 days of roulettes with the current cap of 450, don't even have to do all of the roulettes for it.

He'd have a lot more success with getting his point across without that sewer he calls a mouth.
