Can you do me the favor of looking at what I typed and looking at what you said in response so we can fully appreciate the gravity of the situation here.
It would be different if 1.0 was just an ok game that they made better with 2.0.They probably never will, which is a pity because some of them are pretty fun, but there's a really aggrandizing status held to legacy stuff just because it was 1.x. Never mind that the achievements themselves (just like 95% of achievements in the game) were completely trivial, can't you see they're on a pedestal because you had to have played a worse game seven years ago?
But 1.0 bombed. You'd likely be hard pressed to find someone who feels 1.0 was better than 2.0 overall.
Like it's amazing SE gave Yoshida the go ahead to try to salvage the game level of bombed. Because games rarely get a second chance to succeed. Especially in an over-saturated genre like MMO's. It wasn't like it was FFXIV or nothing for MMO's. There was WoW and the various other WoW clones around.
Yet some players stuck with the game, flaws and all. We players who are not legacy players, owe them.
Without them, SE may not have been willing to let Yoshida gamble on turning the game around.
I’d rather yoshi & company not go back on their word of saying legacy is for legacy.
And what exactly did you type other than to establish three uninformed assumptions?
False. The "aggrandizing" status is not because it was 1.0 stuff, it was because we talked extensively and the Devs listened. It's because Yoshi made a global appeal to help them make a better game-- and only a few hundred thousand players rallied to him even after SE offered to make the game free. It's because whenever the Devs came onto the forums and detailed the massive challenges they we having-- we still cheered them on. And when they brought back paid subscriptions, we still stayed-- heck, the 1.0 player population even increased. They probably never will, which is a pity because some of them are pretty fun, but there's a really aggrandizing status held to legacy stuff just because it was 1.x.
Trivial...?Never mind that the achievements themselves (just like 95% of achievements in the game) were completely trivial,
Ever had to sit through 16 hours of Hyrstmill battles for the titles? Walk everywhere to get the map exploratory achievements because there were no chocobos? Fight the real Nael in true Final Fantasy boss fashion? Run Caravan?
Do not dare "trivialize" those achievements-- a good number of them were insane to get.
False again. 1.0 launched almost eleven years ago (yes, I was there for the beta launch). It shut down almost nine years ago on November 11, 2012 (yes, I was there too)-- and yes, I was there again when the 2.0 Alpha servers came up about five weeks later. Can't you see they're on a pedestal because you had to have played a worse game seven years ago?
We're on a "pedestal"-- as you've grudgingly put it-- because were there for them even when the world told them to quit the game. Sheesh, even people internally within SE wanted to see the game shut down-- yet, we watched the Dev team work on two games at the same time --they were literally still improving and updating 1.0 while still working on 2.0. Even people in the gaming industry considered Yoshi's plan was not only insane work but utter madness-- but with Yoshi's brilliant project management and his team's passion they did it-- and they did it because we Legacies kept supporting them unflinchingly.
I think it best you go do your research and understand the gravity of the situation before uttering stuff you have absolutely no clue about.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
I will ask for them and proceed to not get them because I recognize that my opinions about arbitrarily discontinued rewards are not shared by the game developers
They weren't arbitrarily discontinued.
They were discontinued because the content needed to unlock them got destroyed when they relaunched the game. They just put in the tools for legacy players to get the titles they had earned in 1.0 when 2.0 launched.
And as part of a huge thank you to the players that stuck with them despite how bad the game was and what other people likely thought of them for continuing to play the game, they left that content out of the game to keep some things exclusive to legacy players.
I appreciate the righteous indignation that's on display here, but also that's just, like, my opinion, man. I do not have a high opinion of 1.x or any gameplay contained therein. It is, meanwhile, a relief to know that the achievement system back then was equally as bad as the one we have now, given that some of the most 'non-trivial' achievements were apparently locked behind doing trivial things a non-trivial amount of times, as it continues to be now. Also, a mapping achievement? I know the 1.x maps were a travesty but man.
I don't know how continuing to put playtime into a game they were in the process of mercy killing or responding to their development processes on the forums constitute a meaningful part of 'support,' but as stated I fully recognize that my opinion on this matter is not one that is shared by the developers.
I think something like this happened with some of the Diadem achievements once too and they were re-worked into ones requiring a certain exploratory score? Of course, that's not the best example given that A) they later simply lobotomized the place completely and B) re-working things in this manner takes time and effort that would pretty much apparently be spitting in the face of people who fulfilled the things during 1.x.
But in the case of ones which are similar I don't think there's a meaningful difference, honestly?
I have three alts that have the Ravens from the event itself that do not have the replica title on them that got put on when they were shoved to the mog. And I have no intention of heeding anyone who complains about it.
nor is the opinion shared by a lot of your fellow gamers... people like me, who came on the scene for good long after 1.0
as someone pointed out, the content these achievement no longer exists. there is little "arbitrary" about it.
but maybe you should also receive a World War 1 Victory medal, I mean it too was arbitrarily discontinued
I apologize for being a bit snippy, but asking for things like this just seems... disrespectful and unrealistic. you missed out, best thing to do is stand up, nod, and move forward to things you CAN get.
