Graphics and Display messed up after Geforce driver update

I've recently started my free trial, and I've been having a good time so far. this afternoon I installed the latest Nvidia Geforce driver update (version 471.41), after which I immediately noticed some issues:

The first thing I noticed was that my display settings were changed. The first time I ever booted the game from the launcher, it launched in windowed mode at 3840 x 2160p (or maybe it was lower, but it still fit the size of my tv). This time, however, it launched in full screen, which caused some issues that I'll get to later. Switching it back to windowed mode revealed that the game was now set to around 1080p.

After setting the scale of the game and the ui back to 4k, I selected my character and entered the game. Once I loaded in, I noticed a drop in frame rate to around 40 fps, which got significantly lower around some nearby monsters. Additionally, every time I moved either my character or my camera, the game would flicker darker like a subtle strobe effect. Lastly, while the rest of my ui was scaled to my 4k tv, the elements of my hud relating to chat were strangely still very small.

I looked online for a solution and tried a few things:
    • Switching off DirectX11 in the launcher
    • disabling display optimization in the compatibility settings under "properties"
    • switching between bordered, borderless, and fullscreen
    • turning off glare
    • switching between high and low graphics settings
    • changing the font sizes of the chat log under the character settings menu
    • turning off the 60 fps frame cap
    • resetting system settings from the launcher

Not only did none of this work, but it also somehow raised my chat log to the middle of the screen. I have no idea how that happened or how to fix it, considering that the chat log doesn't appear to be movable in the hud config settings.

Lastly, I want to talk about the aforementioned issues I had in fullscreen mode. Launching the game in that mode causes the screen to flicker green. It then crashed with a DirectX error unless I switch it to another mode. I'm putting this issue at the bottom of this list because I'm not sure if it's related to the others, since I never tried fullscreen mode prior to updating Geforce.

I am running ff14 on windows 10 using an Intel i7 5700k and two GTX 1080's in SLI. I have heard that SLI has caused issues for some in the past, but since these problems have only occurred recently I'm not sure if that's the case for me. Any help with this would be appreciated.

    Update

Disabling SLI seems to have helped fix the frame rate a bit, though the other problems are still there (maybe not the fullscreen ones, haven't checked yet). Additionally, it seems that turning ambient occlusion off and back on made the screen stop flickering, now the screen just gets darker when me or the camera moves.

It also looks like I can only get a 60-ish fps on high laptop graphics settings. I'm running this on a gtx 1080, but then again I'm trying to run an MMO at 4k so maybe that's normal. I don't know.

    Another update

Turns out you can just click and drag the chat log to reposition it, I'm dumb. Playing the game in fullscreen at 1080p seemed to fix my frame rate, as well as the ui scaling for the chat. Also, I can now confirm that disabling SLI did in fact fix the crashing issues when booting the game in fullscreen mode.

The only problem I have left is that screen darkening issue, it stops "flickering" in lower resolutions, but it's still there.

I have a pair of SLI GTX 1080s as well. I did see the same issues with fullscreen, but my biggest issue was that all the Display Names above everything were completely messed up. Disabling SLI fixed the issue.
