I'd like to see a traditional FFVI/FFVII/FFIX type airship mount.

You know: a blimp; an actual dirigible airship driven singularly by propeller power and held aloft by a rigid, inflated bag of gas. I feel like it's something that FFXIV has always lacked, especially considering that 'steampunk era' airships made up such an enormous part of the classic era of Final Fantasy.

I'm not looking for, like, a Highwind Clone that can carry 30 of my friends. A 1 to 5 person mount (anywhere on that scale) of modest size would be totally acceptable. I just want something that harkens back to stuff like this:

I'd love more like those too. Closest thing is the Falcon.

But you can't get that anymore unless they add it back to a moogle trove event again.

I never got the Falcon, but I'm not particularly heartbroken about it because... well... it's kind of like a little toy. I mean, I know this is fantasy, but it's hard to imagine that's an actual functional envelope there - it's more like a carnival ride than anything.

Don't get me wrong, if they brought it back, I'd get it. And the Falcon was always my favorite of the classic FF airships just in general - she just looked like she was built for speed, with the bullet shape and kind of no-nonsense layout.

But what I'm looking for is slightly more scaled up than that - an actual, functional airship. It doesn't have to be enormous, or even the largest mount in the game... just fulfill the basic construct of: blimp, underslung ship/canopy, and propellers. I don't care how they arrange that format, I just think the game should have it (especially now they they've released some truly enormous vehicles for players to own).

Ironically the Chocobo Carriage is sort of an airship, as the carriage actually lacks wheels, instead being suspended from a balloon above that makes it float a few feet off the ground (while being towed by a chocobo. As all mounts fly, it really does fit what you're looking for.

For a literal 'traditional' airship mount, there is also the Lunar Whale airship from FFIV now available too.

The manacutter gained as part of Heavensward's main scenario is technically an 'old school' FF style airship too.

The reason 'gondala suspended under a blimp with propellers' style airships aren't litereally mounts is these are the designs used for actual airships used to travel between the various cities (specifically the Bronco-class used by Highwind Skyways on their various commercial airship routes, but there are many others like Cid's Enterprise, the Invincible and Invincible II-class airships, and the Viltgance class (from FFIX). These can all be made in Free Company workshops and used in Exploratory Voyages as well as being used for FC travel to the Diadem). Hence they cannot be used for personal travel, they're restricted for specific free company use only.

Were there a way to jettison the Chocobo, I'd be happy with the Carriage. Sadly, there isn't.

We were supposed to get a Guild (Free company) Airship, and technically we did, but it was introduced into the game in a fashion that i think people did not expect.

Sadly i don't think this game's environment was built at a scale large enough to make giant airships feel their size in-game; even the 8-man mecha whale mount we got feels miniature in actual scale.

I would love to see these types of airship mounts that are being suggested, but at a scale that feels it's weight and size to feel like.. well, a airship.

Black Desert online managed to solve this issue back in 2017 with Ship scaling by taking the vessel itself, and matching it's mass to the same scale as it's passengers, so as soon as players got in- players would be scaled down to match the size of the ship- making it feel much larger then it actually is in-game; giving the illusion of a proper size vessel traveling through the world with a bunch of players on it.

That's what i would have loved to have seen with the FC vessels like the Airship and submarine that we got back in Stormblood.

I don't like content being gated behind the limited number of FCs who can get their act together to do really complex things... like, for example, the submarine stuff. My guess is, 90 percent of the playerbase has-never-and-will-never see any of the submersible-involved content/items/etc. because most FCs don't have one, have no idea how to assemble one, and no interest in putting in the work even if they did.
