Playing FF14 at a Friends house question

    Hey all,

My friend and I just got back into FF14 and im seeing some old OLD posts on playing at a different IP locking your account. Is this still a thing? I just moved and I'm on a totally differnt ISP and my account didn't get locked.
The reason for this is we see each other on the weekends and I have a second PC so we would like to LAN like the old days lol.

Was not sure where to post this but since I'm kidda new again thought Id try here.

Don't worry about it. Some people who play this travel around, play at work or on a public wi-fi, use a VPN, have a dynamic IP or have their whole family play at the same time. You would assume a company checks for duplicate IPs or changes in IP but they don't because these things happen for legitimate reasons.

Ok cool, we don't use the one-time password so i didn't know if that may be needed. I use to use it but it became a hassel when it broke since I had the one from 1.0 collectors box. Used the app for a bit but it had issues too.

All that happens is if the client detects that you're logging in at a different location it puts a temporary suspension on your account, requiring you to change your password (an email is automatically sent to your email address with a link to do this). Once your password is changed, you should be able to then log in from that location (as in, IP address), as it remembers it from then on (I confirmed this a while ago as my internet provider formerly dynamically allocated my IP address and thus I had to keep changing my password nearly every time I logged into FFXIV. After a while though it stopped happening, despite still having a dynamic IP address, meaning SE does record the IP addresses you've used with that account. It doesn't help if you travel regularly though and access the game from different locations).

Using a one time password (either the hardware Token or the software mobile phone AP) ignores any IP address/location changes, so if you happen to be doing a lot of travelling or moving and thus accessing the game from different places regularly, or have an internet provider who is always dynamically allocating your IP address (changing it constantly in other words), then this can make logging in much easier. Plus it does add an extra layer of security.

I moved from JP to NA and SQEX didn't give me any grief.
I'd be surprised if they gave you some for playing at a friend's house.
