It's hard to say how long it will last though. If they were both released together the picture probably would've been different. The ffxiv census website just got updated for January 2022.

I suppose we will see the real picture in a month or two once a portion of players go back to their main race (which always happens after intial release)

Male Viera have a prettier face than female, and the whole "body+face" package of male Viera feel more rightly matchThe ffxiv census website just got updated for January 2022.

Unlike catgirls, catboys seems to have taken a huge hit and it's always astounding to see the big difference in popularity between Seekers and Keepers.

Tbh now that I look at FFXIV Census, I would probably go with metric for December (for now). A lot of people still didn't complete 6.0 due to queues, and there's a very huge difference on racial distribution among the two even on Viera alone.
December distribution (that looks for 5.3 rewards):
Male Miqo'te: 79 795
Male Viera: 76 188
Which, I feel, is closer to reality, because in practice I still see more Miqo'te than Viera while playing (and that's what it likely will settle as in a couple of months, with amount of Viera probably descreasing a bit more due to helmets/hairs situation along with normal "I had enough of this new toy and gotta go back to my main toy").
Guess it doesn't bother me because I have no neck irl. Like, anything with a collar gets smooshed under my head. I can't even fully zip my winter jacket collarIf they were more traditional elves they'd be among the most popular I think.
The necks are just too hard for people to get past :P.
I honestly don't notice it unless my character is naked basically or has short hair and wears something that is basically bare around the neck and shoulders area.
Personally I find the broad shoulders more distracting and annoying in certain gear altho again it's not always noticeable either.
I do think that my options are a bit more limited if I want to avoid the wonky aspects of Elezen being too noticeable, but it also isn't much of a problem because the gear I like tends to not draw attention to it.
Elezen are the prettiest imo if you can hide that, but if you don't then it can stand out too much.
Imora being able to wear high collars is fabulous.
Proportions are fine. The run animation tho... Fix my foot clipping pl0x.I don't think they should alter proportions - people play their chosen race for a reason. But adding new faces and customization options, definitely.
Also, I just went bunboy for a few weeks for fun, but like many will not stick with it. New races are always a fun novelty.
Curious how long people will stay as male viera. I‘d wager to say it‘s a rather successful race in terms of their current popularity! Does anybody know how high the females were initially when released compared to other races? And how far they dropped after a few months?
On Primal - Hyperion I remember seeing every other person being a Viera on ShB's release. I am not sure on the overall numbers, but I saw a lot more of them than male viera on launch. Then they petered off as the novelty of something new wore off and the weight of cosmetic limitations set in.
If I may go by what I observed in ShB: If the next new hairstyle cannot be worn by Viera then there will be a huge fanta event. That's when I saw the population of bunnies implode.
