Not every job needs to have an air-tight spell/dps rotation in order to be fun or doable.

you are right pretty much for everything up to savage/ultimate. Even with EX you can perform "poorly" and still clear it.
Nothing requires 100% perfection. Hell even ultimates. Which is why you see party finders of people selling clears. They can basically 6-7 man the entire thing and carry your ass while you just lay dead on the floor and watch....
But rotations in general are pretty boring I think. Ninja is a little better as it has a bit of flexibility to it. But using the same skills in the same order every single boss you fight .. gets stale very quickly
Not entirely, some mechanics need an 8th in Ultimate or it really isn't possible. They usually pilot your account to get you the win.

Indeed it does... the problem is that the rotations in xiv have very little horizontal depth. They are only a single vertical threshold where usually there are 2 playstyles:Nothing requires 100% perfection. Hell even ultimates. Which is why you see party finders of people selling clears. a) Keep up with X, Y, Z while not dropping your rotation
or
b) Shove in the max. amount of action inside X window
in both of these options the only thing that 'tests' you is basically your attention span, and how can you cope with a cemented rotation while avoiding encounter telegraphs. This, like you said, gets stale fast, because everything is heavily scripted... from the encounter to how you're supposed to play your job.
To be honest, I dunno if they ever hinted on straying away from this formula. I feel that's about one of the very few upper hands that WoW has over XIV, which is class playstyle being more diverse and encounter mechanics being more interesting... too interesting sometimes to the point of almost chaotic. The good side, on XIV's note, is that it's much easier to balance.
ninja opener is madness but after that is meh ....i would prefer less madness on the TA window and more interesting rotation afterwards ,but thats how the job is played now so...Nothing requires 100% perfection. yeah , almost all the jobs have rigids rotations that not change , u only need to avoid or do mechanics while keeping that rigid rotation /rigid boss script , proc jobs keep u awake thoIndeed it does... the problem is that the rotations in xiv have very little horizontal depth. they break the TOS and borrow your account for the clear
I would agree. More then a few people I know were not happy and quickly quit FFXIV because of the constant button mashing on top of the DDR mechanics for a lot of bosses. My wife is an example of this and ended up going to FFXI instead because the combat was much more relaxed. While I can handle it, I'm not exactly enthusiastic about it either. One of my biggest gripes about FFXIV combat is we have auto-attacks but you should never realistically ever see the animation if you're doing your job even remotely right. It's a bit much.
It would be nice is a single job was based more on auto attacking and you'd occasionally do moves based on a growing TP bar, just to be different from the spam fest in every other job.
Some of the older MMOs used to not have both a tight rotation, as well as a global cooldown. It all came down to each abilities individual Cooldown and Classes were designed in a way, where they never truly ran out of abilities to use during combat.
