Viera Eryut or Eruyt

Does anyone have any information why the name gen for Viera spells the last name as Eryut as opposed to Fran who is Eruyt? I love the idea of my characters last name being based off a town, but it's weird that there is this slight deviation.

Any thoughts?

I have an actual answer for this, and it's stupid: somebody probably made a boo-boo.

EN:

Note how her name is written in katakana: フラン・エルト (Furan Eruto).

Now for the Viera naming conventions, JP edition.

エルト, as used in Fran's name, is romanized here as "Eryut," meaning her surname conforms to the lore document. The French version has the same. In English and German, it is "Eruyt."

Not the first time romanized names have had extra consonants added for flavor (looking at you van Baelsar), but it is the first time I've seen the different versions disagree on where the consonant goes. As for which is correct...?

Oh wow, that's super interesting, and thank you for the great response. So if I'm understanding it could go either way with English. It'll be interesting to see how they will spell the village name if it's ever added in game.

In FFXII the village you visit is "Eruyt" so that's probably the more official version and "Eryut" is probably a mistake.
