    I needs some character advice

    Hi

I have just reactivated my subscription to give the game a proper try, Last time I played was a few years back and I got my Black mage to level 42.
But currently I’m wanting to try a melee class E.G the Lancer/Dragoon.
But I was wondering if there is any drawbacks to changing my job while still doing the main questline.
Would I be better off changing my Job now or grinding it out on my black mage then switch my Job?
Or would it be better just to start fresh on a new character with the road to 70 buff?

    Thanks in advanced

No, There shouldn't be anything that affects your playthrough for changing jobs while doing the MSQ. My friend leveled up well over 5-6 jobs while on his journey to finish the MSQ. It's always recommended to try out new jobs on your first playthrough!

Do you still have road to 70? All jobs under 70 should have the buff during that time even if you change jobs. All jobs that are lower level than your highest level job have a 100% boost so you don't really need to make a new character on a different server just for road to 70.

If you don't have it then it depends on you, if you think its worth making a new character for.

You cannot get the Road to 70 buff except on JP worlds now. It's intended to get people to play on the lowest populated worlds but the entire game is becoming congested, despite it being a patch lull, because of the hype recently, so Preferred status was removed from everywhere except the JP region.

There is no drawback to switching to lancer/dragoon. Once you get to the level 15 main quests you reach Gridania, where you can go to the lancers guild and unlock lancer. It's a blue unlock quest and after doing it you open your armory chest and switch weapon.

You can level it up easily. Kill mobs until level 7, press H and do your hunting log and if you have unlocked guildhests, there is a first-time bonus of experience for each guildhest on each class. Along with your class quests, you should quickly reach level 15 and then you can do dungeons and the leveling/guildhest roulettes to further level the lancer.
