RIP AFK'n flexing in Limsa for a little bit

It’s really sad and disheartening to see other players try to get fellow gamers banned for AFKing in a game they pay monthly money towards the right to log in and the maintenance of the servers they reside in.

Sure there is a surge of players right now and they could use the space so SE has taken mild action on it. But it’s hard to see people who enjoy harming others under the guise of good intentions. They may say they do it for the right reasons but I get the feeling what they really want is to ruin other peoples day.

To them, even the possibility of getting someone banned is tantalizing enough to file dubious reports. Hiding bad intentions behind altruistic veils is something incredibly dark.

Yes, it is mindboggling to say the least. They can report all they want, they can't get anyone banned for afking. I didn't read the whole thread but the one comment on the first page was so disgusting and appalling. I just want to understand what kind of special kind of garbage you have to be to even think that way.

We have received and reviewed a great number of comments on my previous announcement. Thank you again! One particular type of feedback caught my eye, however─players saying, “I’ll stop dancing in Limsa for a while,” or “I guess we shouldn’t log in to watch our monitors while we eat...”

I myself have played many an MMO, so I know how watching other players bustle past during mealtimes physically and mentally prepares you for challenging dungeons later, and how a spontaneous dance performance can brighten everyone’s day. These are ways of roleplaying, and they are part of the fun of MMORPGs.

Therefore, I want you to know that while I deeply appreciate you being considerate, activities such as the above are part of the game too, and you don’t need to show so much restraint that you stop having fun! We have implemented the automatic logout feature, which will log you out if you do not interact with the game for an extended period, so allowing that system to do its job is enough. Please continue to enjoy FFXIV in your own way, and show our new players how alive its world is with adventurers of all sorts.

SE needs to speed up their new Servers or increase the output, now i dont now if you can simply increase that ... but if not ... you can always add more.

The Problem we are having right now can be translated to

"We have to many customers that make us money ... What can we do?! Its to many! Restrict the ones we have!"

while i agree with, if your afk for 30 you can prolly also log out, shaming ppl who pay their sub and then want to be online or even reporting them is just mad.
Get mad at SE ... do you have ANY idea what is going to happen at EW release if its bad NOW? They need to jump on this wave and fix things, its beyond me how their not immediately jumping into action with a battle plan of "okay in x weeks we have 1 new NA Datacenter (or 1-3 new Servers) and same for EU" we need communication ...

We know about the Australian Datacenter, which is cool but most reports on the game focus on EU and NA problems.

And besides, if you plan on reporting ppl. for standing around retainers, or crafting ... your as much wasted space as they are. Also there's plenty methods that are not as obvious. And even if you fix every single way including crafting and Retainers ... most keyboards or mice come with macro function and will be happy to press "W" for you once per 25 min for 1 sec. The Auto Logout has no long-time value.

And if SE thinks that i need to be pushed into a potentially like 30-60 min queue (after i already went through it once) because they cant fix servers when EW releases because i go to the kitchen and make food. Nah ...

It is not about they need to spend more money. Money is not an issue. It is more about Covid and ship shortage, and the high demand for servers.



And really this change did nothing. I still see people afking cause of the hud work around so lol.

Honestly yeah, people have no need to just log in and spend all day afk in one spot. Either log in to do something or free up the server space for others. Especially right now.

The Karen levels of entitlement in this thread are so strong it should be declared a pandemic by the WHO. Yes, you are a paying customer but so is the poor sod trying to log in, how about you move your ass along if you're not actually playing and log out for a bit so others can have a go on the ride.

I want to give a shout out to the people making the argument that people afk dancing for 24 hours a day in Limsa is "playing" because they make the world feel alive. This is lovely and everything but don't then suggest that more servers is the answer, because then you get empty worlds if the player base drops. Merging servers in this game, if and when it happens, is going to be an absolute nightmare thanks to housing and they have to be absolutely confident before expanding servers that they won't have to merge for some time after, because that will cause a hot mess.

FFXIV is current in the middle of a quite unprecedented phenomenon, a huge surge in players 8 years into a games life span and during a content low point. Nobody could have predicted this and while it's always great to play as Captain Hindsight all SE are asking us to do, while taking full responsibility for it, is be a bit more thoughtful of others who want to log in, if you're actively playing, fine, if not, make way for someone who does want to play.

Communication? really? Yoshi P himself gave a public apology and a large and comprehensive explanation as to how this happened and why. He can't make you read it but it wasn't hard to find, all the Youtubers are talking about it, it has a post on the forums and it was posted on the loadestone and game launcher. How the hell did you miss it?

If you had read it then you would know most of your post has already been explained. In short, due to the economic impact of covid 19 they can't rush through servers because there is a global shortage of the physical components they need, they have tried to get them but can't. They will be adding servers but we will have to be patient as the global economy recovers.

Players being afk is not the main reason why you have big queues. It is SE not giving you enough room to play in. If they are struggling with maintaining a short login queue now what is it going to be like on launch days? Right now you are lucky that people are actually afk-ing instead of playing. If people were legit playing and you were in 1k login queue, you are not going to log in today. If the game grows in population so should the servers in numbers.

You shouldn't be blaming the players for problems caused by the servers. It is the GMs' responsibility and this is their quick fix but eventually, they will lose some players because of garbage server performance.

People circumventing the afk timer was apparently enough of an issue that they had to do a hard server reset once just to flush everyone out and make everyone log back in. That was either SB or SHB launch period i forget which. If enough people do it it can cause an issue, what with how easy it is to loophole past the timer.
