Yeah I found it funny there was previously no auto-logout. I'm a recent WoW expat... the other day I had to get up and leave fairly quickly, while getting ready it crossed my mind that I might have just shut off my monitor and not logged out, but I didn't much care because I figured the game would log me out.

Went out, did my "be an adult" real life stuff, came back a few hours later ... there I am chilling in the exact same spot, just like I never left.

It was good for a chuckle.
