Hello! My wife and I recently began our journey into Final Fantasy XIV, and we're having an awesome time. I recently finished the base experience of A Realm Reborn (there will be no spoilers here, rest assured) and I'm now working on my relic weapon content. So far my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, but also fraught with a ton of questions.

"Is there transmog? Where and how? Where is the barber? When do I get a mount? Is there flying? What is the MSQ?" These and a thousand other questions tripped me and I was lucky that my free company was there to answer and help me along the way.

I took the time to compile a lot of the information I wish I'd had when I started. As a WoW player who began in Azeroth back before the tram opened in Stormwind and Ironforge, I translated everything I could think of so far into Final Fantasy terms. Such as "transmog" being known as "glamouring" here. And "flight paths" being "aetheryte".

I also included all the "optional" dungeons I missed along the way, along with how and where to unlock them as they can be missed easily if you focus on the MSQ as much as I did.

If there is anything I missed or was incorrect on, please let me know so I can correct or improve upon it. Keep in mind that this is a collection meant solely for A Realm Reborn as I've experienced it so far, however.

Do be aware that the relic weapon for ARR is just for glamour because it's old and it's easier to just get a poetic weapon. There is a separate relic weapon grind for every expansion. Even the newest relic weapon is never the highest item level weapon until the tail end of the expansion. Just making sure you know that it's not something you need to do to progress to later expansions.

The guide looks good. There are actually flight paths in this game too. You can rent chocobos or birds to fly you to other locations you've talked to the person at. You can even use airships to fly to other city states and ferries to sail to some locations.

The most common advice I provide to help people from similar games is to replace "Group" with "Party", "Dungeon" with "Duty" and "Guild" with "Free Company" or "FC". They usually seem to have figured out what glamour is.

Alt catch-up 50% 100%/50% Bonus
All jobs below the level of your highest level job automatically receive a permanent 50% 100% combat experience bonus until the previous expansion cap, then 50% until the current cap.

The armoury bonus is 100% through Lv70 (until you ding 71). From 71+, it drops to 50%. Expect these levels to shift up by 10 at Endwalker early access. The armoury bonus only applies to mob kill xp (including mobs killed in dungeons, but not dungeon/roulette completion rewards).

Tomestone Gear
Tomestones of Poetics can be used to buy ilvl 90 Lv50 IL 130 gear in Mor Dhona or near the aetheryte in any of the starting cities. As the catch-up tomestone, they can also be used to purchase Lv60 IL270 gear and Lv70 IL400 gear near the Ishgard and Kugane aetherytes, respectively.

Poetics are the permanent old cap level tomestone, so whenever you complete the X.0 main story for an old expansion, a tomestone vendor appears near that expansion's main city aetheryte. The highest gear offered by these splendors vendors is the max IL for their respective expansions--you cannot get better except by grinding a relic or beating the final Savage fight of the expansion for a weapon 5 IL higher. Expect a vendor to appear near the Crystarium aetheryte at Endwalker early access with Lv80 IL530 gear.

The Lv60 vendors are unusual in that the normal NPCs for endgame gear are actually available as soon as you reach the Heavensward endgame hub at Lv57. However, the Sundry Splendors NPC in Ishgard won't appear until after completing HW base story.

The tomestone gear is the max IL available until 4 or 5 levels into the next expansion. That is, the Lv50 IL130 gear is the highest IL you can get until 54 (crafted) or 55 (dungeon). So if you get a full set of tomestone gear while you're at a cap level, you can wear it at least half way to the next cap level. In practice, you "can" wear it all the way to the next cap level; however, if you are a tank, it will be quite noticeable to the healer because you will be squishy from 55 on. This pattern holds for all the cap levels and their corresponding tomestone gear.

Better be VERY wary about investing a bunch of time in the relic weapon grind. I spent a few weeks concentrating on it and I can NOT get my Animus relic (did all the Trails of the Brave) and thus Novus & Nexus are locked off from me. I put in a ticket I will be back here IF they actually make me whole... or leave me dangling.

I’something else I found frustrating was setting up the UI, learning the commands, and understanding the surprisingly large number of menu options.

One of my FC members was able to send me his spreadsheet of where everything is etc… with WOW equivalent names.

The player base is so wonderful here. Seriously I love you all. Makes me want to be more helpful to everyone.
