Just your regular, everyday murderhobo.
She started her journey as a Miqo'te adventurer. Unfortuneately, the constant fights against primals, ghosts and eikons left their mark. After getting in contact with a supernatural being, she got infected by Aetherial metastasis. A rare desease where harmful aether spread within body, slowly damaging it over time.
After 2 years, she found a way to slowing down the process and gain more time: by transfering her aether into a dead Au Ri body. But since then, any of her tries to find a cure failed.
Until she arrived in the First. After killing more and more Lightwarden, her desease slowed down every time and almost stopped completely because of the nature of light aether. But as a side effect, she got somehow addicted to light aether and the presence of Sin Eaters. Soon she began to realize that this state wont last forever. The Scions wanted to eliminate all light, including hers. In her despiration, she seeked an secret audience with the only one who may help her: Vauthry.
Vauthry offered her to turn her into a Half-Sin Eater-being like he is. In return, in case of his death, she will act as his backup-plan. Knowing it will be too risky to turn her into a Sin Eater right now, he just gave her instructions instead, saying that she will make a decision sooner or later... .
After losing all of the light aether during the events in the First and the reconstruction of the Empty, her condition worsens. Making a hard decision, she followed the instructions Vauthry gave her and became a Sin Eater hybrid.
Since then she began to consume and collect aether to keep herself alive and prepare to bring back Vauthry and rebuild his paradise for everyone who is willing to follow the Sin Eaters. In the Source.

My character is a WoW dwarf piloting an elaborate mechanical suit. That's why he mostly nods and emotes instead of actually talking; a single "Interest ya in a pint?" would blow his cover almost immediately.
His mission: To find the Shadowbringer so that he or she can bring the Shadow back to the Shadowlands, since Blizzard forgot to add it during development.
Thus far the mission has been a failure, as he is trying and failing to keep a low profile due to the majority of NPCs believing that he is the Shadowbringer (despite doing a lot more light removing than shadow bringing). However not all is lost, as his secondary objective of simply making a new life for himself in Eorzea is going swimmingly.

I have a feeling I was created just to be controlled by someone that wants to watch me bounce and jiggle pleasingly when I cast spells.
My current main was actually first written as an antagonist for an RP arc I ran for a previous FC I was in. She was a war orphan in gyr abania taken in by a rogue sharlayan mage that broke off after the Hinterlands colony was abandoned, meant to be a weapon of war against the empire after being augmented by less than ethical magical experiments.
The FC group eventually defeated her, but decided to spare her and give her a second chance, stripping her of the powers that had made her dangerous and unstable. And I liked the character enough that I kept her around and eventually made her my RP main. She's currently trying to live a relatively normal life, having to adjust to her new status quo. Grappling with the guilt over the things she's done, and torn between wanting to start over but also feeling like she can't, that one day her past is going to catch up with her and the new life she's been bulding will come tumbling down around her.
Funny thing was she wasn't originally intended to be a normal 'player character' but just a bad guy for the FC to clash with a few times and then defeat. But I ended up really liking the character. It helped some I think that a lot of her instability came from circumstances she was forced into, with the real villain of the arc arguably being her adopted mother that did said experiments on her in the first place. So while she wasn't totally innocent, the party felt like she deserved a second chance and I ran with it. Not a character concept I would have made if I was making a new PC from scratch, but it happened to work out well here.

Son of a garlean soldier and a hrothgar woman, raised near the border between Landis and Garlemald proper. Was trained as one of their conscripts and fought alongside the IVth Legion during the war to capture Bozja, earning him citizenship. Left shortly after and began wandering as he missed seeing the bizarre and incredible sights with the IVth Legion. Thinks of Ishgard as home due to how similar it is to Garlemald and Landis.
I prefer to keep my character's origins vague and fluid so i can just entertain myself by adding new things to it when new lore is available. Don't like to glue myself to a specific backstory.
However, for this character in particular i did have a somewhat elaborate passing thing to justify not being "Tia" or "Nunh" that i made up in my spare time.
I made him the result of an affair with one of the A tribe women and a passing moon keeper male, who was later exiled as a young child when the affair came to light (he looked like nobody else in the village, it was obvious, and the Nunh wasn't happy about it). His older brother joined him, and they travelled far north together, far away from any seeker tribe, as seekers are notoriously not fans of the cold. They took on the surname of Snow, to signify their new life in the north, and their refusal to be a part of another tribe's customs. They did, however, keep the A prefix to spite their old tribe.
In their travels, it was found that i had quite the affinity for manipulating aether. So we went on together to Sharlayan (Dravania) to find somebody to help me hone this talent safely. The older brother insisted that i could be somebody important someday if i got the right training. However, none were very forthcoming as a tutor to two penniless, tribeless miqo'te, and so for a while i subsisted on what knowledge i could glean from beginner basics books in their public library. In the meanwhile, the older brother tried to pick up a trade and make some money for the both of us to get me further education.
This process was slow, and by the time we started making any headway, the events preceding the 7th Umbral Era unfolded, and Sharlayan packed up and returned to the motherland. We did not follow. Instead, my brother decided that we should stay in Eorzea, and that Sharlayan was getting us nowhere. It had just started snowing endlessly in Coerthas, so my brother decided there as a lot of money to be made hunting for meats and pelts to sell to the newly frigid elezen. Using the money he made from this, he sent me down southward to learn magic from one of the other city states. As it turns out, Ul'dah was in desperate need of fresh Thaumaturges, so they weren't picky about who they taught, so then [insert intro sequence to Ul'dah and all of the events that followed]
Eventually in my travels, i had learned about Conjury, the Arcanima, Astrology, Red Magic... Learning forbidden arts like White and Black magic, and the lost Allagan art of Summoning, and also became some sort of hero or whatever. The older brother remains rather successful in his busniness of selling pelts and meats up in Coerthas to this day, and is very proud of his little brother.
This, however, is all going out the window when i become a bun, a shame because i was a bit fond of it. That's life though. Who knows though, i could go back some day.
