    Classes are not solo only

Thought i'd offer a friendly reminder since I see some serious confusion. That is all. In case you were wondering why there were class only weapons, thread title is your answer. Idk where ppl got class=solo only anyway, lordy you guys leap to serious conclusions. Classes are generally better at soloing, yes, but that doesn't mean they're less viable for parties. It depends on the build and the cross-class skills necessary for your build to be efficient. That decides whether you choose job or class *derp*

I think it came from SE, really. When introducing the concept of jobs, Yoshi explained it as classes being for solo and light parties and jobs for full parties.

I'm confused because there doesn't really seem to be any reason not to use jobs. Even in light parties.

Pretty much agree with the above, instead of advanced classes we had to level and keep the dynamic of classes where it was with every class being for any situation we now have our classes matched up with a 'job' that is more specialized for party play and thus killing off the use for regular old fashioned classes for those situations.

Or that seems to be the idea anyway, I'm not really sure I like it that much. : (

We take THM over BLM in Ifrit because of Raise, Enmity/MP isn't too much of an issue with competent people, and he absorbs Flare =P

As far as light parties go, once I get ahold of the new mage gear I'd definitely be going CNJ for spiritbonding or just doing lowman stuff with friends. The stats are really good, you can attach materia to them (I can make my nuking capabilities better), and WHM itself can't use them. Nuking with Cleric stance up in parties really speeds things up.

Whenever I solo on PGL/MNK I will switch between the two in order to hit elemental weaknesses but PGL has much better survivability by far.

As they expand the systems we will probably see more of this class vs. job gear and you will have to decide between access to the powerful job abilities or the potentially versatile and powerful class gear. I know I can't imagine doing bosses and such without Regen or Presence of Mind, no matter how good the Conjurer gear gets.

I imagine the jobs will become much more interesting later down the road and will grow in complexity and viability later on. This is just the foundation that we're seeing. It'll be interesting to see if jobs are used as intended or just become fancy side specializations.

The only job I don't see worth soloing on is BLM, every other job seems to get enough survival skills for their own soloability.

You can solo a bit on BLM. Just generally not as well as THM. A BLM can still heal (Second Wind, and Necrogenesis), and benefits from Sleepga. But in general, unless you really need Sleepga, there is not that much benefit over THM. And, due its interesting implementation, there is not much stopping you from going as THM, /job on, sleepga, /job off.

It's not that jobs can't solo, they just lose their safety nets. It's not that classes can't join and be effective in a full party, they just have safety nets for less damage output. They each bring their own strategies to the table.

Classes and Jobs are two different ways to level(Horizontally or Vertically). Switching to one or the other just gives you an edge in different situations. That edge can easily be made up for with a different approach to a situation.

I prefer jobs over classes myself. That's because I have a longer history with them which is why(I assume) most here has never looked back at the classes.

Ahh but if only ppl were actually honest about this lol. I dont use classes either really, but ppl were complaining about useless "solo only weapons" which is just false lol
