The new Steam Deck, do you think it will run FFXIV?

Hey all first time posting in these forums.
I can't really come up with a lot of topics but... I found out today that steam put out a new hardware on their front store, called the steam deck. it looks like a better switch. I assume it can play most or all steam games... so since FFXIV is a steam game, I was wondering if yall think it can run the game? performance wise I'm sure it'll have no problem, I don't know what the GPU is equivalent to, probably weaker than the PS5's, but 16GB DDR5 RAM and between 720p-1080p, 60hz.

If it does run it, I'll consider getting it, the most expensive model cause the cheapest model doesn't have enough hard drive space. If it doesn't run it and only plays a few select games from the library, then I'll probably not bother, it's a pretty cool looking system though so I'm interested in what it can do.

You have to remember, the Steam Deck runs on Linux.

“On Steam Deck, your games run on a different operating system than the one on your desktop PC. It’s a new version of SteamOS, built with Steam Deck in mind and optimized for a handheld gaming experience.” The new version of SteamOS features Proton, which is a compatibility layer that will aid in running games without the need of new ports. Valve states that it will work with vendors to improve anti-cheat solutions through Proton.“

Personally. I'd wait for reviews before dropping that much money on this thing.

Valves history with hardware isn't exactly great...

the valve index is great, controllers great features aren't compatible with many games but it's still decent hardware. I heard the steam controller flopped though, don't know anyone that uses one, not sure what else they've done hardware wise.

Got one cheap for 30 at gamestop. I still use it sometimes, actually worked really well for FF14 once I tweaked the sensitivity on it and found a good layout someone made.

But it's very niche IMO and was not worth the full cost it originally came out in. I'm not surprised it basically flopped.

I don't know who they're trying to market this new device to at all.

Yup, it'll probably flop like the Steam Machine.

edit: deleted other post as I meant to reply to this one

You can list all the compatability fixes, emulators, you name it, but nothing is prefect and you'll always run into issues where you have to spend some time (and a few headaches) to get things working on Linux.

Trust me. I've tried Linux in the past and I don't want to deal with that anymore. It's really sad to say, because I don't really like Microsoft and Apple is infinitely worse, but both of those options are better.

SE could make a Linux version of FF14. Then it would be not a big problem to play FF14 on Steam Deck.

    Cheers
